Yayoi Kusama Pumpkins

Michele's Bitmoji Art Room

About Yayoi Kusama..

Yayoi Kusama is a Japanese artist. Two of the main subjects of her work are pumpkins and dots - often combined! She creates paintings, sculptures, art installations, performance art and more.

You can learn about her in my Resource Room. To the left, click on the "Famous Artists" book in the bottom cubbies to go to the Famous Artists Gallery. Click on Yayoi Kusama's picture and it will take you to a page with links all about her and her work.

Below are some images of her work and then the lesson.

Kusama even wears dots - that's her on the left, with one of her pumpkin sculptures on the right.

Kusama pumpkin paintings and a pumpkin sculpture

This is one of Kusama's installations - an interactive art piece where the viewer experiences the art all around them in the room.

This installation is an infinity room - with pumpkins! The room's walls, floor and ceiling are mirrors giving the illusion that the room goes on forever.

And the lesson...

For this lesson, you'll need white paper, a pencil to draw with, a ruler, a Sharpie for the black dots and border and watercolor paints.

If you don't have paints, crayons or colored pencils are preferable to marker to contrast with the black dots.

This project should take 60-90 minutes - the dots can take a while!
