This course is designed to challenge, support, and prepare students for advanced high school math. Below you’ll find everything you need to stay organized and successful throughout the year.
✨ Polynomials & Standard Form
Write polynomials in standard form (highest power → lowest).
Combine like terms correctly.
Identify the degree of a polynomial.
Identify the leading coefficient.
Classify polynomials by degree and number of terms
✨ Add & Subtract Polynomials
Add polynomials by combining like terms.
Subtract polynomials by distributing negatives correctly.
Write final answers in standard form.
✨ Multiply Polynomials
Multiply a monomial by a polynomial.
Multiply two binomials.
Recognize and multiply difference of squares.
Write products in standard form.
✨ Perfect Square Trinomials
Identify a perfect square trinomial.
Find a missing value to make a trinomial a perfect square.
✨ Polynomial Word Problems
Write polynomials for area, perimeter, and volume.
Multiply expressions to model real-world situations.
Substitute given values and evaluate when asked.
Quick Reminders:
Combine like terms before finding degree or leading coefficient.
Watch your signs when subtracting.
Write answers in standard form whenever possible.
For word problems: write the expression first, then evaluate
✅ Independent Practice First – Finish all assigned practice and check your answers.
✅ Study Guide & Notes – Review step-by-step examples we did in class.
✅ IXL Practice – Target skills on inequalities for extra reinforcement.
✅ Lesson Videos – Rewatch examples on the class website if you need a refresher.
✅ Teach Someone Else – Try explaining an inequality problem to a friend, parent, or even out loud to yourself. If you can teach it, you know it!
✅ Mock Quiz/Test – Set a timer, work through problems without notes, then check your accuracy.

This guide walks you through how our Algebra 1 class is structured—from daily routines to grading policies—so you know exactly what to expect and how to succeed. Keep it handy and refer to it whenever you need a quick reminder of how things work in our classroom.
Silent independent work time will be either of the following tasks:
Daily Check - graded assignment over independent practices.
IXL Practice - ungraded practice; district requires 40 minutes a week
Whole class instruction with guided notes and example problems
Work time in class with teacher available for questions.
Becomes homework if not completed in class.
Answer keys are available to check work.
Independent Practice is ungraded but essential for mastering concepts.
Some problems from notes and IPs appear on graded Daily Checks.
Provided STAAR Reference Sheet allowed.
Desks cleared; only school-provided calculators may be used.
Calculator memory must be cleared and shown before testing.
Assessments take the entire class period. No extra time unless stated in a 504/IEP.
All accommodations will be followed.
You must show all work to receive credit. No work = no credit.
If absent the day before a test (review day), the test is still taken on the assigned day.
Extra day given only if an instructional day is missed.
If absent on a test day, take the test immediately upon returning to school.
Eligible if score is 79% or lower (quizzes not eligible).
Retest score capped at 80%.
Points earned back only for questions corrected.
Must complete and turn in test corrections before retesting.
Retests held on scheduled days; student must attend a designated session.
Must retest within 5 days after score is posted in Skyward.
Daily Checks (DC)
Learning Check Quizzes (LCQ)

Major Projects
This course is a high school credit class, and success starts with a solid foundation. This optional 124-question practice packet is designed to help students entering Honors Algebra 1 review essential pre-algebra skills from previous grades.
The packet includes key topics such as:
Real number operations (fractions, integers, and perfect squares)
Solving equations and inequalities
Simplifying and evaluating expressions
Coordinate graphing
Word problems, percent problems, and properties of numbers
Why use it?
This packet is highly recommended to refresh skills and build confidence. Answer keys are included, and students are encouraged to use Khan Academy or other resources to review any unfamiliar concepts.
📌 Note: Problems should be completed without a calculator unless otherwise noted.
Each chapter section with the TEKs that correlates to the lesson.
Important vocabulary needed for algebra 1.
All the state standards that we will be covering throughout the year.
