Adding Materials

Image showing the different options from the Add Materials menu within a Course in Schoology

Once you are in your Course (Class) there are several options for adding materials to the course. Much like other file saving structures you can create folders and place things within them. You can rearrange the order of added materials that the students will see when they open the course on their device. You can even unpublish items to hide them so that students don't see them and can more easily find what you want them to.

I like to organize my courses into folders named by Chapter or subject areas to help keep things organized within my course materials list.

Rather than recreating what Schoology has already done follow this link for Creating Your Course Materials to see how to add different materials. Then you can click on the blue links within to find instruction on how these different features can work for you.

There are a few resources on some of them embedded below. For more on the Test/Quiz option see the Create Test/Quiz Webquest in the left menu and the sections within it. I love using this for testing as it automatically grades many of the question types!!!

Schoology Icons and Editing Tools

There are several icons and tools within the Schoology drop down and pop up windows. This video shows some of those from the Materials tab and also the rich text editing tools for when you use Add Assignment, Discussion, or Page. I tried to give a quick explanation of several of the tools and how each can be used in creating course materials within Schoology. Several of them are further demonstrated in the Schoology videos below.

Add Assignment

Use Add Assignment to create assignments that you want students to submit and then enter a grade for. This short video gives a good overview on getting started creating assignments within Schoology. For a step by step follow along: Creating an Assignment

Add Discussion

Use Add Discussion to create a discussion thread. Enter your instructions for the discussion and even attach a video or file for students to view and discuss. For a step by step follow along: Creating Discussions
