Google Photos

Although it doesn't entirely pertain to the workplace I have had many inquiries about saving photos and being sure they are backed up somewhere should your laptop experience issues. I feel like the easiest and best way to do this may be through the use of the Google Photos app. This app can also be downloaded from the Google Play or Mac AppStore for mobile devices. Clicking on the Google Photos image below will take you to the Google Photos about page where you will see links for downloading this app from the appropriate store.

Photos from Mac OS X (desktop or laptops)

The backing up of photos and short videos from your Mac is actually done through a checkbox in the Preferences and setup window of Google Backup & Sync. There is a checkbox near the bottom of the window under the Google Photos section that states: Upload newly added photos and videos to Google Photos. Placing a checkmark in this box will send your photos and videos from your Mac to Google Photos storage.

Photos from iOS device (iPad or iPhone)

The backing up of photos and short videos from your iOS device can be done once you have downloaded the Google Photos app. Go to the Mac AppStore on your device and search for and download the Google Photos app. When you open the app it should start you through a login and setup process that you can follow through with. If not you can click on the Menu hamburger icon at the top left. Then tap the Settings icon and then Back up & sync section. Here is where you need to set the Back up & sync toggle slider to on and then select a Google account that you want this devices photos and videos to be backed up and stored to Google Photos for. You can also choose your Upload size, of which I would recommend staying with the High quality as that way you get free unlimited storage. I have found that they are still very quality images being saved and accessed from Google Photos. Now any new photo or short video you take using this device will automatically upload to Google Photos when you have an internet connection helping to ensure that you have a backup copy of them should something happen to your device.
