Description of the Project: The goal of this project was “Developing skills while creating an e-newspaper in order to impact people’s views and beliefs on international and national issues.”The School Newspaper project allowed students to creatively manufacture an E-newspaper teaser regarding global and local issues. Everyday, students were given the opportunity to showcase their talents, different roles were assigned to them in terms of writers, editors, photographers, illustrators and graphic designers. They had the opportunity to visit La Sentinelle Printing press. The visit enabled students to learn the framework behind creating a newspaper. This project has been a success and is now open as a club for students to join in and help in the launch of the first LBIS newspaper 2022.

Participants reflections:
Day 1:
The role of day one was to create groups and assign each group a specific role for the creation of the newspaper.
Reflections:
Student 1:
Being initiated to the different roles of individuals working for the newspaper, components and importance of the newspaper, physical newspaper vs e-newspaper
In terms of discussions and collaboration we found out “What was our area of interest as part of members of the newspaper club (what aspects of it were we interested in and what roles we were eager to take), what were the characteristics of each role, what did regular physical newspapers and e-newspapers consist of and differ in what ways”
Day 2:
To make our own newspaper page based on one of the LBImpactS projects. We needed to interview some teachers and students at that project and be able to convert that information into research for the newspaper.
Reflections:
Student 2:
I learnt the importance of communicating and investing to get a handful of information to be able to write the article
Day 3
Students visited La Sentinelle printing press to learn about the production of daily L’express newspaper and it’s processes.
Reflections:
Student 3:
What was interesting is about how different product printings are made, and how the newspapers are made.
We learnt how newspapers are made and most of the processes they have to go through. We also learnt what each role’s tasks they have to carry out.
Day 4
Students came up with a framework for the LBIS Newspaper. The worked on each step of the process and started editing their teaser( Few pages of a newspaper)
As a reflection students came up with a drawing (see attached photos) to express themselves.
Day 5
Overall reflection from student leaders.
As the student leaders, it was quite a challenge to get the whole group to work as a team and sometimes our plans wouldn’t work out. But eventually by collaborating and communicating we were able to work together with the younger forms to create the teaser. Not only did we build our collaborative skills we also made a lot of friends and ultimately created a teaser that we are super proud of !
We would like to thanks La Sentinelle for receiving and giving us their precious time. Special thanks to Mr Forget and Mr Nad Sivaramen
