This full-year mathematics course is designed for students who need a third or fourth math credit, but may not be ready for a pre-calculus or CCP mathematics course. The course is designed to promote reasoning, problem-solving, and mathematical modeling through hands-on thematic units, while reinforcing and extending understanding in Number and Quantity, Algebra, Functions, Statistics and Probability, and Geometry. The course will focus on the application of mathematics to real-world situations, with careful attention to the choice of units and contextual challenges, and problem-solving that requires analyzing an unfamiliar situation and devising a solution strategy. Skills learned in the course transfer across many areas of study, providing a gateway into successful post-secondary education and a variety of careers.
A TI-84 Plus CE graphing calculator will be provided for use in class only.
