In order to enroll in Physical Science Honors, students should meet the criteria for placement in honors classes. The major content in this course is physical science and the related principles in Earth and space science. Students will learn about the nature of matter and energy, physical properties of substances, structures and properties of atoms, how atoms and molecules react with other atoms and molecules, and properties of forces that act on objects. Earth and space science topics include processes that move and shape the Earth, Earth’s interaction with the solar system, gravitational forces, and the weather. Students will develop a deeper understanding of the processes of scientific inquiry as well as understand the historical development of scientific theories. The primary difference in the honors level is the depth of study, the application of concepts learned to new situations, and the independent nature of coursework.
