Health Technology Program

Health Tech combines college-prep academic education with hands-on experience to prepare students for entry to 2- or 4-year post-secondary programs in the medical field. Students completing Health Tech are prepared for entry to programs in: medical assisting; medical lab technician; radiographic technician; medical office assistant; fitness training and sports medicine (personal trainer, activity assistant, athletic trainer, and physical therapist); or nursing/EMT (emergency medical technician, registered nurse, paramedic); and other related fields.


Juniors in this program focus on basic skills for all health care workers and explore available careers in the health care industry. Students spend their mornings learning to assist in caring for patients in a variety of health care settings. Within the course, students will be enrolled in the Ohio Department of Health, Training and Competency Evaluation Program for Nursing Assisting. They will also learn infection control and hazardous waste management, medical terminology; first aid; CPR; HIPAA rules. Students must enroll and pass Chemistry as a requirement of this course. Students will be able to take the state exam to become a nursing assistant (STNA).


Seniors will build and expand the nursing assistant role to that of a patient care technician. Skills and knowledge taught in the second year, will guide the student from basic patient care to the advanced skills needed in today’s changing healthcare system. The focus is on advanced patient care skills, special care concerns, and assisting with medications. Students can participate in externship rotations in various areas that highlight the classroom learning, and become certified in CPR for the healthcare professional. Students must also enroll in the Anatomy and Physiology Class to participate in this course. Students also can earn CCP and additional college credits.
