This course is the first introductory course in chemical principles. Topics covered include systems of measurement, language and symbolism, chemical math, basic structure of the atom, chemical bonding, electronic configuration, nomenclature, chemical reactions, calculations based on chemical reactions, acids and bases, gas laws, solutions, kinetics, equilibrium and oxidation-reduction reactions. Laboratory experiments will be done that explore the subject material. It is highly recommended that students have completed Algebra I with a B or better and Biology with a B or better.
