Prom 2025
Our recent school prom was nothing short of show-stopping! From dazzling outfits to unforgettable dancefloor moments, it was an evening filled with joy, laughter, and lasting memories.
Every pupil who attended had an amazing time celebrating the end of the year in true style. The atmosphere was electric, and it was clear that everyone thoroughly enjoyed themselves.
A huge thank you to all the staff and students who helped make the night such a success – it truly was a prom to remember!
In maths, students have been learning to order numbers on a number line and answering questions like "can you find one more / one less?"
Jewellery making
"We made gorgeous leaf jewellery today.
We used copper wire and green beads and twisted them together to form leaf shapes.
First of all, we measured our copper wire to the length we wanted, we then added our first bead and twisted the wire three times around to stop the bead from falling off.
We chose more beads to keep adding to our leaf shape.
We used big beads, small beads, tiny beads, pearly beads, lime beads and sparkly blueish-green beads."

MODULE 6!
Hello everyone, and a very warm welcome back for Module 6! We're all really looking forward to another busy and productive term with Canterbury Class.
This term is shaping up to be a significant one for many of our students as some will be preparing to take their Entry Level 1 exams. We'll be working hard together to ensure everyone feels confident and ready.
We're also thrilled to be diving back into the world of Business Enterprise! Get ready to spend your money because this term we will be taking the exciting step of selling the fantastic products we've been working on. More details on this will follow soon, so keep your eyes peeled!
We're incredibly proud of the hard work and dedication each and every student has shown in completing their ASDAN Personal Progress (PPs) and Personal and Social Development (PSDs). It's been brilliant to see your progress. We will now be continuing our journey with ASDAN, focusing on Life Skills and Short Courses to further develop your independence and abilities.
Learning beyond the classroom will continue to be a key part of our week. Our valuable work experience at the M@W cafe will continue, and we're delighted to announce that our work experience at Bore Place will be starting on Thursdays this term. This will provide another fantastic opportunity for learning and growth.
Throughout the term, we will also be focusing on developing essential social skills and building confidence in preparation for the workplace.
It's going to be a busy but rewarding module, and we're excited to see all that you achieve. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask.
Best wishes,
The Canterbury Class Team

First day back - module 5!
Welcome back from Canterbury Class! We've hit the ground running on our first day back, diving straight into our exciting Business Enterprise project: herb pots!
Our little green shoots have been busy growing over the break, and today, we designed our pots using the decoupage technique! We learned all about the fascinating art of decoupage, carefully cutting and sticking colourful papers to transform plain terracotta pots into vibrant and unique creations.
We were absolutely blown away by the focus and creativity of every single pupil in Canterbury Class. They all worked independently and with fantastic enthusiasm, mastering the decoupage technique like true artists. The results are truly amazing - as you can see!
Once completed, we will be selling our herb pots so keep an eye out!
This module has been fantastic, and we are so proud of how hard all our pupils have been working! Everyone has shown great effort and dedication, and we can’t wait to carry this energy into next term.
In Module 5, we will be focusing on preparing for our Functional Skills Maths and English exams, which take place in May and June. To support this, we will be running focused practice sessions, ensuring that every pupil has the opportunity to strengthen their skills and build confidence. For those who need extra support in specific areas, there will be dedicated sessions aimed at helping them revisit key concepts and refine their understanding.
Alongside this, we will be finalising our ASDAN courses, making sure that all coursework is completed and ready for submission. This will be a great opportunity for pupils to reflect on their progress and celebrate their achievements.
Beyond our academic work, we will be continuing to develop key life skills. We will focus on social skills development, helping pupils to build confidence in communication and teamwork. Additionally, we will be working on our Business Enterprise project, which involves growing and selling herbs. This project will give pupils valuable experience in planning, teamwork, and entrepreneurship.
We will also be putting our gardening skills to good use by improving our outdoor learning area, making it a more welcoming and engaging space for the warmer months ahead. This will provide a fantastic opportunity for hands-on learning while making the most of the outdoor environment!
Thank you for your continued support - we are so looking forward to next module! We hope you all have a lovely Easter break.
Eid al-Fitr is a special occasion for Muslims and is a time for celebration with family and loved ones. Eid ul Fitr marks the end of the month of Ramadan, a period of month-long fasting for Muslims around the world, and the start of Shawwal, the tenth month in the Islamic (Hijri) calendar.
M@W joined together to help mark and celebrate with our own special meal to mark the end of Ramadan, we had a range of foods including a special dish that was made by some of the students and served from a tajine, we hope you enjoy some of the photo's from the event.
The students also researched information for fact sheets that were placed on the tables to give information about Ramadan and Eid ul Fitr to the rest of the students.

This term has been extra special as we started at M@W. It’s been an exciting time for everyone, and we’re thrilled to see how fantastically the pupils have embraced the change. Congratulations to all our pupils for a brilliant first few days back – you’ve settled in so well and are already making the most of this new chapter.
To mark our first day back, we took part in an exciting activity: designing a time capsule! This project will be a fun way to reflect on how far we’ve come after spending a few months in our new satellite. Each pupil wrote a slip for the time capsule, sharing what they like most about M@W so far. These heartfelt and thoughtful responses were paired with their first day back photos to make a memorable keepsake.
As you can see below, the pupils had some fantastic answers about their initial impressions of the satellite – what a great way to capture these first experiences! Let’s take a look at some of the wonderful first day back photos below.
Here’s to a fantastic module ahead!

Maths: So far this module, Canterbury Class has been focusing on developing their place value skills. Pupils have been enjoying games that test their knowledge of place value, partitioning numbers, and comparing "more than" and "less than." They’ve also been using base 10 (Dienes) blocks to partition and build numbers, exploring different ways to represent numbers. It's been a fun and productive start to the module, with great progress in our maths skills!
This module, students have been working towards the ASDAN Entry 2 Managing Own Money criteria. Recently, they visited a local shop where they independently paid for their shopping, demonstrating how transactions work in real life. They also practiced choosing items within a set budget, helping them build confidence in managing money and making responsible spending decisions.
This module, students have been preparing to make craft items for our upcoming Christmas market. As part of the project, they went out to choose wool for their pom-poms, ensuring they selected materials that fit within our craft budget. Back in class, they have also started learning how to create the pom-poms, carefully following instructions and developing their crafting skills. We’re excited to see their creations come together for the market!
Canterbury Class PSPD Update: Weeks 3 & 4
During Weeks 3 and 4, Canterbury Class has been focusing on emotional expression and self-awareness as part of their Personal, Social, and Physical Development (PSPD) lessons. The primary focus has been exploring how students are feeling and helping them learn ways to express those emotions constructively.
A key element of these sessions has been understanding the stages of grief and bereavement. Students are gaining insights into how to process loss and are learning about available support systems for dealing with such emotions. This important module aims to help students recognise, regulate, and manage their feelings, equipping them with tools to handle difficult emotions both now and in the future.
Through group discussions and reflective activities, students have shown a growing understanding of how to manage their emotional wellbeing and how to seek support when needed.
Our Hair and Beauty students have been thriving in the Customer Service Module! Through interactive role-play sessions, they have gained valuable insights into effective communication, with a special focus on body language and how to warmly welcome clients into the salon.
They’ve also been practising the practical side of dealing with clients by learning how to efficiently use booking schedules to organise appointments based on clients’ preferences. A big part of this module has been about handling real-world challenges. Our pupils have developed strategies for dealing with unhappy clients, initially using a support 'chatting sheet' to guide their responses. However, as they’ve grown more confident, they’ve been able to come up with their own creative and professional solutions to rectify situations – all essential skills for working in the industry!
Here are Michael and Cire's list of 'dos and don'ts' when dealing with a client complaint - I'm sure you'll agree their approach to customer service is OUTSTANDING!
The students have been working on solving exam-style word problems and have created a guide to help them with their key words so they can work out which operation to use when solving. The students have been solving one FS word problem a day and they are getting faster and more confident! Here is an example of our guide and some beautiful independent work!
