Stream Pathway
Our transdisciplinary theme this term is "Who We Are." We are investigating our personalities, our likes and dislikes, our families and friends and who we are as an individual and as a community.
Our central idea is "communities are shaped by the people in them." We are looking at how we are part of a community and how our differences make us an even better team. We are looking into the different lives and cultures in our class community and learning more about each other.
Module 1
In Science we identified how we use our 5 senses through touch, smell, taste, sight and sound.
Edward identified he uses his mouth to taste ice cream.
On a recent visit to Bore Place Farm students were assisted to carve pumpkins.
We removed the seeds and toasted them in the oven - delicious!
Module 2
Scotney class have been busy this Term making goods to sell at our Christmas market. This forms part of our ASDAN unit “New Creative Activities”. All the students have enjoyed the activities and produced some lovely items including Gonks, plaited Christmas wreaths, teacup candles and Rudolph tree decorations.
In Food and Nutrition lessons we have been exploring recipes that we can cook in the airfryer including sponge cakes, rolls, garlic crumpets and homemade chicken goujons.
We celebrated Children in need day by watching inspirational films, decorated biscuits and coloured our Pudsey pictures.
Our allotment and outside environment continues to be a well-used area and has provided us with opportunities to weed, tidy, make a bug hotel, plant spring bulbs and make bird feeders.
All of us in Scotney class would like to send everyone our best wishes for a joyful holiday season.
Scotney class had a lovely time celebrating Children in Need Day. We listened to inspirational stories, coloured Pudsy pictures and iced biscuits.

Module 3
This Term Scotney class have made progress towards their individual learning plans and provision plans, generalising these skills in a range of contexts.
Students been working on an ASDAN accreditation in our Enterprise lessons. We have been making our own soap choosing the colours and scents, we have started to construct our suncatchers and they will be ready for the Mother's Day sale later next month.
We have continued to work towards our ASDAN unit "Early maths; sorting and sequencing". This has been evidenced by the students following sequences in dance moves, building Lego towers and a variety of functional tasks
National Storytelling Week was great fun and Scotney class were really immersed in our Navajo legend "How the stars fell into the sky". We made star biscuits, painted sponge stars and enjoyed listening and watching the story itself.
Our outside area has seen a lot of hard work. We have made bird feeders, planted seeds and potted seedlings. The bulbs we planted last year are just beginning to come into flower and we are really looking forward to the warmer weather and enjoying our time outside.

We will also be making comparisons between the past, present and future, in particular how health and hygiene has improved, and how the choices we make now impact our future.
Our central idea is "People change over time". We are looking at how we have changed as individuals over time, from when we were a baby until now. We will explore how people and the environment has changed over time, and what we can do to support the future environment.

Health and hygiene has improved
We have been looking after our own mental health and wellbeing by enjoying quiet time in the new library.
Students in Scotney class have been learning new independent living skills in areas such as washing up and loading the dishwasher.
We have been learning about the feastival of Ramadan and Eid. We read a story and watched a short film to enhance our understanding of this Muslim festival.
We all designed our own henna patterns having looked at many beautiful designs.
This week we have been making our own soaps as part of the Phase 4 Enterprise scheme. We made a choice of colour and fragrance.
We had made a selection of small different coloured heart shaped soaps. These were then covered in a layer of white soap and left to set.
And here is the end result! We will be making many more like this to sell at our Summer fair.
Working on our ASDAN Lifeskills challenges we have been cooking simple dishes. Today we made flapjacks.
We practiced weighing, measuring, mixing and stirring together the ingredients. The flapjacks were then cooked in the oven. They turned out very well!
This week is Mental Health Awareness Week. We have been moving more for our mental health. We have enjoyed dancing along to action songs.
To improve our mental health we have been working on building relationships. This week we met Harper the therapy dog, she was an instant success!
Being outdoors is a great boost to our positive mental health. We have been enjoying the sunshine whilst working outside in our allotment area.
This week we have all taken part in "The Big Sow" during our Horticulture lessons.
This is an initiative to involve all young people in the sowing of seeds and planting seedlings.
We have planted sunflower and Cosmos seeds. We can't wait to see the results!

Following the health and hygeine theme Scotney class are concentrating their efforts on teeth cleaning and nail care in Module 6.

Our Science lessons this term are focussed on recycling and the correct disposal of unwanted items. We are using the story "The Undersea Cleaning Spree" to support our understanding of the topic.
During our Food and Nutrition lessons we will continue to work on our ASDAN Lifeskills challenge "Cooking for myself". We will be cooking a selection of simple meals and desserts.
We will also be using our therapy dogs to help us in our personal care sessions. The dogs will be using their own toothbrushes, toothpaste and hair brushes to enhance the teaching or these skills to our young people.

Health and hygiene has improved
Today we have been potting up some lovely flowering tubs. We carefully took the young plants from their small pots and placed them in the large tub.
When the tubs were full we gave then a good soaking using a rose on our watering can so that we did not displace the delicate young palnts.
And here is the beautiful finished item ready to be sold at our Summer Fete on Saturday.
Following on from our Science lessons where we have been reading "The Undersea Cleaning Spree", we are recycling unwanted items from our classroom.
We have three boxes labelled Paper, Plastic and Metal. Items to be recycled include waste paper, packaging, drink cans and plastic bottles.
Every day we check the pictures on the front of the boxes and then place our items into the correct boxes to be recycled.
During our ASDAN Enterprise lessons we have been making a number of items to sell at our craft fair.
Here you can see wheat hand warmers, leather beaded bracelets, glass stone tea lights and spiral suncatchers.
Scotney class also made Scrabble coasters. We have been looking at different ways of packaging and displaying our items for sale.
Today we had our Summer Craft sale. We carefully priced and then laid out all the items we made to sell.
As customers came to visit we told them all about our different smelling soaps and candles.
We practiced passing the chosen goods to our customers and taking their money.
