Our transdisciplinary theme this module is "Where we are in place and time" We are exploring how humans grow and develop, and how our relationships change and grow. We will also be making comparisons between the past, present and future, in particular how health and hygiene has improved, and how the choices we make now impact our future.
Our central idea is "People change over time". We will explore how people and the environment has changed over time, and what we can do to support the future environment.

Health and hygiene has improved
During module 6 the students in Eynsford have been exploring a variety of materials during Science, learning how to sort them into recyclable and non-recyclable materials. The students have continued to focus on increasing their independence during personal hygiene including washing their hands at regular intervals throughout the day, and brushing their teeth regularly. The students continue to focus on using their individual communication aids to promote independence when making choices and requests throughout the daily routine. As part of their ASDAN life skills challenge students have been exploring different ICT they can use in every day life, including the air fryer and photocopier. They have also explored different technology such as the ipad and different apps on the interactive white board, learning how to create patterns using different tools. The focus for cooking this term has been making simple snacks using the air fryer. Students have been able to follow instructions to make items such as mini pizzas, cheese scones and jam tarts, activating the air fryer independently.
To celebrate the end of the year Eynsford class visited Hollywood Bowl. The students enjoyed taking it in turns to bowl the ball down the alley - we had some fantastic bowling on show! The students followed adult instructions and shared a space with their peers fantastically!
As part of our ASDAN life skills challenge we have been focusing on using ICT in every day life. The students have explored different mark making apps on the computer, demonstrating an understanding of cause and effect by pressing different areas of the screen to make patterns.
As part of our collective worship we celebrated the NHS and all that they do to help us. We engaged in a variety of activities focused around the NHS, including a messy play activity exploring different organs of the body. With support the students learnt where to put the organs in the body.
During snack time the students have been encouraged to use their individual communication aids to make requests with increasing independence. Students have been choosing from a range of symbols to develop their understanding and ability to read the symbol.
During science we have been learning about recycling and which materials can be recycled. This supports our line of inquiry thinking about how we can protect the environment in the future by recycling. The students have then put this into practice by filling up the recycling bins daily with items that can be recycled.
During cooking the students have been learning how to use a knife safely to cut different ingredients. When making fruit kebabs, students used communication sheets to request their desired fruit and followed instructions to cut the fruit and place it on a skewer to make their kebab.
The students applied their number skills to an arts and crafts activity, creating a rainbow picture using 1-5 ribbons. The students communicated which colours they wanted using chatting sheets for support.
Eynsford class visited the school library to generalise their reading targets in a different area. The students explored a variety of books including tactile and noisy books, turning the page when prompted. The students were able to point to simple pictures in the book.
During our personal hygiene lessons, the students in Eynsford class have been continuing to learn how to brush their teeth with increasing independence. The students followed visual and verbal prompts to brush their teeth in the bathroom.

During module 5 the students in Eynsford have been exploring a variety of different ICT resources within the classroom and wider castle building that they can explore and use. This has included functional items such as the washing machine and hoover, further extending their prior learning on engaging in household cleaning activities. Students have also engaged with a variety ICT resources such as using the interactive whiteboard and ipad to make choices and engage in interactive learning games. During maths this module the students have focused on grouping objects based on a given criteria eg. colour, size or function. They have then been encouraged to identify the odd one out from the collection, identifying that is different from the rest. As part of our life skills challenge the students have continued to explore simple snacks they can make in class including fruit kebabs, coleslaw and sausage rolls. The students have followed a symbolised sequence to enable them to become more independent in their cooking lessons, practicing skills such as chopping and mixing. During our enterprise sessions the students have continued to make some exciting items to sell at the upcoming summer fair including home made soap and lavender bags. They have also explored different music activities including following a colour sequence using the boomwhackers to play along to a song.
The students have been exploring using different ICT appliances around the castle building. This has included using the washing machine, hoover and photocopier. The students have followed a symbolised sequence to enable them to engage in the acitvity with increasing independence.
The students in Eynsford class have been busy making a variety of items to sell at the upcoming summer fair. This has included handmade soap and lavender bags. The students have been weighing, measuring, pouring and mixing the ingredients to create the different fragranced soaps.
As part of our maths ASDAN curriculum we have been matching objects and finding the odd one out from a collection. This has included a variety of household objects, and different coloured items.

During module 4 the students in Eynsford have been learning about health and hygiene and looking at how this has improved and developed into the personal hygiene routines we follow now. Students have been following instructions to participate in a variety of personal hygiene activities including washing their hands, brushing their teeth and showering. The focus of these activities has been to increase students independence in their personal hygiene skills. The students have continued to work on their functional skills, applying their maths knowledge and skills to more functional every day activities, preparing them for adult living beyond Milestone. This has included matching cutlery to the picture to lay the table, sorting clothes out of the washing machine by colours (eg. light and dark) and sorting clothes into piles of the same clothes to put them away in the cupboard. During our sensory story students have been exploring a range of different foods, learning about their food type and sorting them into groups of healthy and unhealthy foods. We have continued to make a variety of products during our business enterprise sessions, with students following visual and verbal instructions to create products such as tote bags, fridge magnets and sock bunnies! These sold really well during our spring time tea, with orders being taken for more bunnies in Module 5!
During our independent living skills sessions we have been engaging in a variety of different household cleaning activies including dusting and hoovering. Students have been supported to use the hoover to tidy up the classroom after lunch, before turning it off and returning it to the flat.
Our sensory story this term is "Which food will you choose?" Students have been given the opportunity to explore a variety of different foods, with different coloured foods being investigated each week. Students have been encouraged to explore the texture, smell and taste of different foods.
During our enterprise sessions we have been following instructions to make a variety of gifts to sell at the upcoming Spring time tea and craft sale. Students have been encouraged to follow verbal and visual prompts to paint a flower on a tote bag, using a picture as a guide.
During our functional ILP sessions, the students have been applying their maths skills to real life situations. This has included laying the table by matching the cutlery on the place mat, and sorting the cutlery into corresponding sets of the same colour.
Whilst learning about personal hygiene routines, students have learnt the sequence of how to brush their teeth. The students are able to follow visual and verbal schedules to brush their teeth with increasing independence.
During our sensory story we have been exploring a variety of healthy and unhealthy foods through taste, touch and smell. The students have been learning which foods are good for you and which foods you should have in moderation, and are able to sort them into corresponding sets with support from an adult.
Our transdisciplinary theme this module is "Who We Are." We are investigating our personalities, our likes and dislikes, our families and friends and who we are as an individual and as a community.
Our central idea is "communities are shaped by the people in them." We are looking at how we are part of a community and how our differences make us an even better team. We are looking into the different lives and cultures in our class community and learning more about each other.
During module 3 we have focused on progressing our independent living skills from preparing a cold drink to preparing a simple snack. This has included making toast and sandwiches, where we have learnt how to spread a variety of toppings on our toast, using our individual communication aids to indicate our preference. We have continued our learning about household cleaning activities, applying the skills we have learnt to complete jobs in the flat with increasing independence. During Science we have learnt about different forces and engaged in activities involving these forces, such as making playdough where we have had to push and pull the playdough to create different shapes. During our enterprise sessions students have been given the opportunity to choose a variety of creative activities they would like to engage in, including making valentines cards. As part of our maths ASDAN qualification this module the students have been focusing on sequencing activities in a variety of contexts including washing their hands, making a snack or following a routine at snack time. During national storytelling week we enjoyed engaging in a variety of activities related to the story "Jack and the baked beanstalk" and we thoroughly enjoyed our inquiry afternoon engaging in a range of activities related to different alternative tales.
The students have been learning how to spread butter and other toppings onto bread when making a sandwich or toast. They have been encouraged to communicate which toppings they would like using a communication sheet for support.
The students have learnt to follow a sequence to wash their hands during our personal hygiene lessons. They are able to follow verbal prompts and a simple sequencing sheet to support them when washing their hands.
As part of their maths ASDAN PP work, the students have been learning the familiar sequence during snack time. This involves using a variety of communication aids including a PECS book, where the students choose their desired snack, place it on their sentence strip and exchange it with a supporting adult to gain their snack.
During module 2 we are continuing to focus on our independent living skills including making a cold drink with increasing independence. We have begun a new life skills challenge this module engaging in household cleaning activities, focusing on cleaning activities such as hoovering and dusting. The students are learning how to complete these activities and use cleaning equipment safely. The focus for enterprise this module will been Christmas crafts, with the students having the opportunity to engage in new creative activities such as making salt dough and festive dog biscuits to sell at the upcoming Christmas fair. Eynsford class have the opportunity to visit Bore Place this module for their work related learning, with students engaging in functional activities such as feeding the calves, raking the leaves and making bird feeders. As part of our maths ASDAN qualification this module the students in Eynsford are focusing on sorting items by a given criteria (eg. colour, function or size) and recognising and repeating simple patterns including colours and objects. Communication continues to be a focus across all areas of our learning in Eynsford class, and all students are encouraged to use their individual communication devices across every lesson to make requests and engage appropriately in the activities.
The students have developed their independence skills over the term to enable them to make their own cold drinks with increasing independence.
The students followed verbal and written instructions to weigh out the ingredients to make festive dog biscuits for the upcoming Christmas fair.
The students have been supported to engage in a variety of household cleaning tasks including wiping the sink and sides, polishing and making the bed.
During module 1 we have focused on settling back into school and forming new relationships within Eynsford class. During cooking we have begun learning how to make a cold drink, including squash, milkshakes and fruit smoothies. In Enterprise students in Eynsford class have begun exploring and choosing a variety of new creative activities to participate in, including making cards, hedgehogs and stained glass windows. Eynsford class have been focusing on their individual learning targets including sequencing the days of the week as part of their maths ASDAN learning. The students in Eynsford class have enjoyed participating in a variety of clubs this term as part of their recreation, including music and clubbercise.
During maths the students have been practising sequencing the days of the week as part of their ASDAN PP qualification.
During write dance the students have been focusing on their gross motor skills, mark making in a variety of sensory media such as shaving foam and corn flour.
During horticulture the students have been encouraged to explore the local areas within school, identifying different herbs and plants. They have been encouraged to use their senses to explore them further.
