Transdisciplinary theme: Who We Are
Central Idea: Communities are shaped by the people in them.

In maths this term we are focusing on our number skills, starting with place value and counting and moving on to adding and taking away. Each week, we try to use the skills we have learnt in a functional activity such as laying a table, putting on the washing or looking up bus routes.

Our key text in English this term is "How To Wash A Wooly Mammoth." Students have enjoyed taking part in activities relating to our text as well as learning how to use English in their everyday life, such as following spoken instructions and reading to find information.
This term, we are working on two Lifeskills Challenges, Mental Health Awareness and Basic First Aid. In Mental Health Awareness, we are looking at activities that can help us have good mental health and trying out some of our choice. In Basic First Aid, we have been learning what an emergency is and how to shout for help or call 999.

This term, Dover class have had their first lessons in the science lab! They have enjoyed carrying out experiments in this new environment, including looking at sand under a microscope and carrying out chromatography to find the colours in a felt tip pen.

We have started this year's enterprise by trying out making some different products. Students have started to learn how to use the cricut machine to create birthday cards and have explored making bath bombs with different scents.

This term, students have been able to choose from three options for Friday afternoon recreation - music club, drama club or Clubbercise. These activities count towards our ASDAN accreditation and our lifeskills challenges.

In Term 2, Dover Class worked hard preparing for our Christmas Market. Alongside creating items to sell, we also learned how to make hot drinks safely and practised serving customers within the school so that we could run a hot chocolate stall at the market. We continued to work on our adding and subtraction skills in Maths and put these into practice when we went out into the community.
We took a trip to Millbrook to try tasting some hot chocolates.

This term, Dover have been working on their independent living skills and thinking about our role in both our lives and our community. We have been learning about our rights and the responsibilities that come with these and how they change as we get older. We have also been thinking about our dreams and goals for the future. We have put our learning into practice by going to Beams to learn how to cook for ourselves and take care of a home and by going to Bore Place where we are learning work-related skills such as listening and following instructions and keeping ourselves motivated.
This module, Dover have continued to work on their independent living skills. We have been applying our new knowledge of fractions to our functional skills by finding halves and quarters of items and amounts while cooking out own lunch on a Thursday. We have been going shopping for our ingredients and learning about the role of money in our lives. Our weekly tuck shop has also helped us to understand how adults make money through their job and get to spend their money after working hard for it. We have been thinking about our food choices and exploring activities to keep us healthy.
We learnt how to share our ideas and opinions by combining words. Here, we are reflecting on how an area of the school makes us feel and suggesting improvements.
We learnt how to develop healthy relationships and communicate with others. We learnt how to ask others questions and respond to them to have a conversation.
In Enterprise, we explored different mediums to create spring plant pots. We made flower pots with clay and explored painting our own patterns.
In Maths, we learnt about fractions. We focused on half and quarter with some of our class learning about other unit fractions. We used this new knowledge functionally in cooking.
We visited Bore Place for work experience. We learnt to follow instructions to carry out farm work and other activities related to nature.. Here we are gathering rosemary to make cheese and rosemary scones.
We have been developing our number and money knowledge through our tuck shop. Throughout the week, we earn money by completing classroom jobs. We then count out a number of pennies or an amount of money to pay for a snack.
This module, Dover are exploring our ability to influence and change the world around us. We are going to look at the idea of democracy and how we have a say in the world around us and at how we can create positive relationships with the people around us, including learning about asking for consent before we interact with others. In Enterprise, we are researching and developing ideas of products to make to sell at the summer fete.
In Enterprise, we have been working on communicating choices, following instructions and using our fine and gross motor skills.
Dover have continued to cook their own lunch on a Thursday. To finish the term we decided to make a roast to showcase our kitchen safety and cooking skills.
We have been accessing the local community to develop all the skills we have learnt in wider contexts including recognising numbers, counting, using money, communicating and problem solving.
We have been working on improving our independence in our personal hygiene including recognising different hygiene activities, choosing items to carry out different hygiene routines and working on our showering and tooth brushing.
We have been learning how to apply our knowledge of number to functional contexts including how to find and mark down dates on a calendar.
We have made choices of activities to engage in for recreation and have enjoyed finding out about new activities. Some of us have even started to learn how to use the radio booth!
At Bore Place, we learnt how to use a flint to start a fire and how to behave safely around a fire. We used our knowledge to roast marshmallows and make smores!
We went to Upz and Downz in Tonbridge for our careers learning and to practice our use of money and ordering at a cafe.
We took a public bus to Bluewater as part of our life skills challenge.
