Aztec - Term 2

This term we are focusing on the trans-disciplinary theme 'How We Express Ourselves'  with the central idea being 'Communication through time.'  Students will be learning about the past and specifically how we know about British Events  of the 1600's.  How did this news travel and was it reliable.  Students will then be comparing this with how modern day technology communicates the news.  They will investigate and discuss its' advantages and disadvantages.

In our English lessons. the class will be looking at 'The Magic Finger!''Roald Dahl.

The Magic Finger - exploring the character

We have been learning how to write questions to find out about the characters.  The girl in the picture sent us a picture of her story, and we are listening hard to find the answers.

Students found that the Greggs family go hunting, but this makes the girl see red.  We have investigated for and against arguments for 'Fox hunting'.

Poetry

We imagined that we had turned into birds like the Greggs family and was soaring through the skies above different landcapes.  Together we thought of words to describe and then put them together to make a poem.

Communication through time

We have looked at different events in the 1600s.  We have expressed an interest in the events we wish to learn about.  In week 2, there will be a class vote to decide upon which events of the 17th Century, Aztec class will learn about.

We have been learning about the 'Gunpowder Plot'  First we  found out what happened and the reasons behind this.  We then sequenced the events that led up to Guy Fawkes being caught. Lastly we looked at evidence which indicated how we know about this significant event in history.

We have learned that we know about events in the past through the communication of a letter.

We wrote letters to Lord Monteagle to warn him of the Gunpowder Plot.

We then screwed up our work and made it look old by staining it with teabags.

Maths

We have been learning what it means to multiply and how this relates to repeated addition.  Some of us used Numicon to help us, and some of us used the bus stop method to calculate the product of two digit numbers and a one digit number.
