Mr Watanabe.
6th Grade students have finished up their scale model Dream House/Apocalypse Bunker. Students first choose a scale and then create what they want and need for different scenarios. Measurement is key!
7th Grade finished working on their working electronic gadgets and have begun to build to rockets.
8th Grade students have finished working on their wooden paper towel holders. Students were able to pick their own designs and were tasked with cutting, painting, and assembling everything. They are now working on making their custom designed clock.
Home Ec students have passed their safety tests and are ready to cook! To prepare for cooking labs, students cleaned the kitchens and measured out their ingredients.
Teen Health students completed their counter advertisement projects which highlighted the dangers of smoking/vaping or drinking alcohol. They also did an activity that required them to weigh out how much added sugars are found in beverages that they consume.
Mr. Yap
Mrs. Austin
On Fridays, each student completes a self assessment. They determine which benchmarks they have been successful at for the week and which things they would like to improve for the next week. Mrs. Austin assesses them on the same benchmarks. This is how we arrive at a weekly grade, a combination of what student and teacher observe.
Ms. Pilato
In our middle school agricultural technology class, students have recently completed lessons on germination and seeds, gaining hands-on experience in understanding how plants grow from seeds. They also explored the interactive game Journey 2050, created seed profiles, and conducted a technology research assignment to learn about agricultural innovations.
Every Wednesday, students participate in field observations, developing their personalized field guides to track and document the flora and fauna around our campus.
Mrs. Wada - Goode
As we approach the end of the quarter students in art class have been hard at work on their projects. 6th graders learned about Color and created mandalas. 7th graders painted terra cotta inspired by Aboriginal dot paintings. 8th graders created charcoal landscapes while studying Space, Texture, and Value.
Mrs. Tadaki
In the Math Learning Lab, we have delved into everything place value and the operations of whole numbers and decimals. The students have been using manipulatives to engage with these important concepts. These hands-on experiences have helped them to visualize and organize their thinking. The scaffolds that the students use encourage them to break down their learning into manageable steps and help students to see the relationships betwen numbers. It is amazing to observe how these different activities are quickly building students' number sense and confidence with numbers. We love hearing the many "Whoas!" and "Ahas!" as our students unlock the wonders of math!
