It has been a fun start to the quarter and students have been working on a variety of projects!
6th grade made pony bead pets! Students started with the classic 90's gecko then designed and made their own creations! They are also planning for their next project, a landscape!
7th grade learned the Breadfruit (Ulu) Hawaiian quilt pattern and created it out of paper. Many students also created their own personal designs. They are excited to start working with fabric to make their own mini quilts!
8th grade starts our class out by learning the two strand ribbon lei, a wonderful skill to have as we move closer and closer to graduation!
Mr. Morimoto
In January, 6th and 7th grade wheel classes defined a leader and are now working on goal-setting and class presentations respectively.
Our 8th grade Student Council Officers hosted the school's Qtr 2 Recognition Assembly!
Mr. Falzarano
Happy New Year and Welcome Back! Students have gotten off to a great start in Interactive Science. Pd 1 6th graders are making their own slides to view under the microscope of bacteria from yogurt. Pd 3 8th graders are completing circuits in preparation to explore electromagnetism. Pd 6 7th graders are hard at work preparing the shadehouse for their hydroponics projects.
Mrs. Tadaki
The ELA Learning Lab students have been hard at work strengthening both their reading and writing skills. Students have been reading a variety of texts and learning to identify the central idea and cite the evidence that supports it. Students have been using different strategies including using thinking maps, color-coding, and note-taking to help organize their thoughts. We are so excited to see our Learning Lab students progress in their critical reading skills and response writing and we are looking forward to their continued progress!
Mr. Ikehara
Concert Band students had their annual band camp where band directors from all over the state came to work with the students. We even had one of the band directors from the University of Hawaii.
Our beginning band members are diving deeper into their instruments. They are having section rehearsals (sectionals) this quarter where we go over the fine details. They are making such remarkable progress and we are very excited for their spring concert happening in May.
Mr. Otaka
So far this quarter, Grade 6 and 8 students have done parallel robotics challenges (Junior Botball). The 8th graders built EV3 robots, and did the challenges at "life size," and the 6th graders used Ozobot Evos to do the same challenges at a minitiarized scale. After that, the 6th and 8th graders learned (in a rudimentary way) how machine learning works, and tried to define their stance with regards to Generative AI in Art.
7th graders learned to code with Swift (a coding language specific to Apple Apps), and then began to design 3D models using Tinkercad.
