6th Grade- Students have been working collaboratively with a partner on a foot orthosis designed for a child with Cerebral Palsy. Students needed to use their creativity to not only make a functional orthosis, but one that would be suited for a growing child who would not be anxious to wear it. Students drew up their own separate ideas and communicated with one another to pick the best one or a combination or both.
7th Grade- Students are learning simple electrical circuitry. In order to do their final project students need to show understanding of both series and parallel circuits. Students had to connect a switch, a battery, and some lightbulbs on their springboard.
8th Grade- Students area working on their wooden papertowel holder project. After choosing their design and sketching it on paper they had to transfer it on to a piece of wood. Then students needed to cut out their shapes, sand it down, paint it, and then finally assemble all the parts.
In Home Economics, students participated in a money management game that showed them that unexpected expenses pop up in life and that they should have some money saved to cover the expense. They also learned how to sew two basic hand stitches and are now beginning their sewing projects.
Teen Health students are focusing on nutrition & serving sizes. On Wednesdays, they focus on mental health so they discussed sources of stress and techniques to relieve stress.

7th grade chorus students, pictured here, are learning how to sing and sign the Kodaly Solfege scale. They have already learned about half steps and whole steps and are currently working to identify what is "singing in tune" and what it means to sing sharp or flat. You can hear them perform for the first time of the year at next Friday's Food Truck Festival at Wheeler at 3:00 PM.

We have had a fantastic start to the year, kicking off with a week full of fun and creativity. Our students have been busy with get to know you activities, and together we've personalized our reading nook. We jumped right into review activities, writing exercises and a thorough refresher on parts of speech , setting the stage for a successful quarter ahead!

The Math Learning Lab students have kicked off the new school year with a lot of energy! The students channeled their creativity by designing personalized shoes featuring their unique personalities and interests. The students also completed a Math Attitude Survey to explore their current feelings towards math. Accompanying their surveys were colorful glyphs showcasing their reflections on their math experiences. The students are making nice progress in their iReady lessons. It is awesome to see the students putting in the effort to complete their lessons with quality. We are looking forward to a successful semester centered around grit and growth!
