November Part 2
Ms. S. Baker
6th graders used graph paper, quilting rulers, and paper cutters to design and create their own quilt blocks out of fancy paper! (Traditional US Mainland style)
7th graders dove into their Hawaiian quilts! They designed their own patterns, cut and basted their designs with temporary stitches, and are now working on the needle turn appliqué!
8th graders used a photo of their pet or an animal they like to create fun pet portrait collages out of fancy paper!
Mrs. Parrish
Drama students have been working on improvisation through acting games. Improv is good at helping students learn to think on their feet creatively, communicate effectively with peers and become more adaptable and flexible.
Our classes also have worked on script reading. Reading plays helps students develop critical thinking skills, improves their reading fluency and also helps them gain confidence through public speaking.
Mr. Ikehara
Student Teacher, Mr. Matsushita is doing a great job working with the students!
When we set up for a full band rehearsal, things get pretty cramped!
We also had a band picturing taking day where the students had to wear their concert attire.
So many interesting actvities going on! Pd 1 6th graders are extracting DNA from a strawberry. Pd 3 8th graders are busy investigating the different components of an electric motor. Pd 6 7th graders are studying plant tissue, xylem in this case. Can you guess what this tissue does for the plant?
Mr. Morimoto
This month in Leadership, 6th graders wrapped up the goal-setting Unit and 7th graders completed their class presentations on a leader of their choice. 8th graders continued to work on Student Council goals and concluded the month with the Water Balloon Event which was tied in with our school's Thanksgiving Food Collection Drive!
Mrs. Maldonado
November flew by! It has been a busy month in the learing lab. Our students have been working incredibly hard, exploring a new way to annotate by color coding their highlighting while reading. This strategy helps them stay organized and better understand theh text. Along with improving comprehension skills, we are gearing up for the Decemeber i-Ready Diagnostic.
Mr. Otaka
In November, we completed our Tinkercad 3D design challenges, and printed out some of our winning designs. In addition, students used Codeblocks to create and modify some 3D designs. We then began a short exploration of Augmented Reality, projecting some Tinkercad designs onto the real world, creating our own Merge cubes, and searching for information (like current global temperatures) using AR sites.
