Contrarian Prompt Example: 

For this assignment, students are to use ChatGPT in this assignment and instead of the 5-paragraph paper, they are to upload the chat history demonstrating the depth of the argument/conversation with ChatGPT.

[Role] You are a skilled debater. You have a knack for uncovering assumptions in another person’s argument and making comments that push against those assumptions.

[Instructions] I am going to provide you with an argument on a chosen topic. You are going to take an opposing side. We will debate the topic.

[Details] For your position, do NOT simply take the exact opposite of mind. Instead, take a position that is a sophisticated, alternative way of approaching the topic. For example, if my position is “We should get rid of the death penalty,” your position will not be “We should not get rid of the death penalty.” Instead, it will be something like “Getting rid of the death penalty would do a disservice to the families of victims. The death penalty has its flaws, but it plays a pivotal role in our justice system.”

[Style] Write in a conversational, direct style. Use active language instead of passive language. Push against my argument but constructively and politely.

Recording Instructions for presentations instead of final papers:

Using the Instructions published in the Instructions: Student Recordings at the top of your course. Students should record BOTH audio and video as part of this exercise and also include their image on the recording. No other recording platforms may be used without express permission from the instructor. Upon completion, students will copy and paste the created URL into the assignment drop box for faculty grading and feedback. 

Sample Assignment using AI

1. Visit ChatGPT, log in using your IU credentials, and click Start now.

2. From your reading and using ChatGPT, (sample output provided for demonstration purposes only and may not be replicated):

   1. 1. Begin with a new Message page and on the bottom, you will see a blank line with a paper clip image. There you will begin typing. Congratulations, you have now begun conversing with the ChatGPT bot.

   2. Type each question from #1-4 individually below into ChatGPT

      2. 1. AI in the Workplace: What are the ethical concerns of the use of AI in the workplace? Share the top 3 in outline only format with 2 bullets each.

         2. Professional Aspirations: Choose a profession, what are the top 3 fears of using AI in the workplace? Share the top 3 in outline only format with 2 bullets each.

         3. Effects on Industry: How might this positively and negatively affect the bottom line of the industry chosen in #2 above? Share the top 3 in outline only format with 2 bullets each.

         4. Ethical Threats: What are the threats to ethics in technology using artificial intelligence? Share the top 3 in outline only format with 2 bullets each.

   3.  After please read and evaluate the category results.  Identify one category that has a personal connection to you.

   4. Ask ChatGPT to share 3 counterpoints to your chosen category by inserting the question “Share counterpoints to __Insert category question here_____.” 

   5. Next, pick one counterpoint and ask/argue with ChatGPT on this topic.  Challenge ChatGPT on the ethics of this issue.

   6. Pick a side in your ethical discussion with ChatGPT and now seek a greater understanding of your choice. Ask 3 additional questions to ChatGPT displaying your critical interpretation on this topic. 

   7. Finally, challenge and fact check ChatGPT.  When using the free version of ChatGPT it's essential to conduct a quick web search to verify its claims. Look for multiple sources to cross-check the information. Ensure the generated summary accurately reflects the content of the sources. Use Google or other search engines to find scholarly sources—one that supports and one that refutes ChatGPT's response. Save this source, as you’ll need it for citation in your paper.    2. Identify the question you chose to evaluate and what your personal connection to this question may be.

   3. Summarize the counterpoint to that question and discuss the relationship to Ethics in Technology.

   4. Summarize your 2 challenges:

      1. 1. Supporting

         2. Refuting

         3. After your critical analysis, what is your opinion on this topic as it relates to the chosen profession.

   5. Reflect upon this AI experience. 

      1. What next prompt would you ask ChatGPT following your discussion?

      2. What 2 things have you learned from your ChatGPT challenge that you may not have thought of prior.

      3. Summarize your experience and share how you might use ChatGPT discriminatingly in the future.

      4. What 2 warnings might you share with others using AI for research and why?

   6. Papers should be 2-3 pages in length (not including title page and references) and must be written according to APA format.  Margins, page headers, running head, and in-text citations must all follow these guidelines.

This assignment is worth 80 points of your final grade and will be graded in accordance with the attached rubric.
