These master shells house materials that are unique to, and completely managed by, an individual faculty member. They allow the faculty member to store course resources and prepare all the course materials. Because these Masters are managed entirely by the faculty, there is little or no supervisory oversight, and these are generally used as enhancement for face-to-face courses. The faculty member is responsible for making updates and overall maintenance of their own teaching material. The content of these shells are the property of the faculty member and used by only the faculty member listed as owner.
Faculty members are highly encouraged to create their own personal master shells for managing any content they use regularly in their courses.
Individual faculty may have one master shell per course number. Courses are located on Moodle within MASTERS-GRAD or UGRAD Online and will be named according to the naming convention (established June 2018): MASTER-Course Number-Faculty last name (for example MASTER-PSY208-SMITH). Should faculty request further labeling for their masters, it may be added but must begin with this prefix. Click on the image on the right for instructions. ==>
Faculty may import content from their master shell to the live shell once those live shells are visible to them in their personal list of courses on Moodle. The content of personal master shells are not available for automated movement to live courses, so faculty are responsible for uploading their master content into live shells. In the top section of each CRN designated to be taught using faculty created and managed content, users will find published instructions titled Teaching an IU Course for instructions, best practices and resources for delivering this course.
