Faculty are encouraged to grade as the week progresses using the Discussion Forum Rubric as their guide for evaluating the quality of the student’s work. Discussion Forums should be graded weekly within 2-3 days after the end of a given course week.
Moodle discussions are built on a “sum of rating” system with 0 as the minimum and 20 total points as the maximum for most forums.
As you read each post, consider and award up to ten (10) total points for the initial post and five (5) for each peer reply using the rating drop-down box by the rubrics and as shown below:
Simply select the appropriate amount of points you are awarding for the specific post/reply post; the system will automatically update your gradebook accordingly.
Just to be clear on this last point:
Grades entered for each of a given student’s post/responses in a particular discussion forum are compiled in the gradebook to determine the student’s overall grade for that discussion assignment.
Moodle will not allow you to award a student more than the maximum score (20 overall points) for each forum assignment.
Click on the forum you wish to grade and select Grade Users.
Using the arrows, scroll to the student you are grading. In this location, you will find all posts for this forum for a given student.
Click on the rubric buttons as shown to the right, with the corresponding score for each category.
Determine if you wish to send notifications to the students and select Save.
The aggregate score will appear in the course gradebook.
