Videos can be a wonderful enhancement to an online course. Before embarking on audio or video recordings, faculty are encouraged to read and consider the following best practices while planning your recordings. Specific attention should be made to the requirements for ADA compliance, including:
Video quality is clear.
Videos should be 3-10 minutes in length and allow students to pause or break while viewing.
Video file length is adequate to meet the goals of the activity without being too large to restrict users' ability to download the file on computers with lower bandwidths.
Provides closed-captioning or has accompanying text-based scripts for all videos.
Video file lengths are adequate to meet the goals of the activity without adding unnecessary information.
Video player required is compatible with multiple operating systems and requires only a standard, free plug-in.
Faculty must ensure all videos published with the intention of embedding them into their course for student view are ADA compliant. Regardless of the system you choose to produce the videos, please follow the Creating Closed Captioning Videos for your course procedure to publish them on Moodle.
