Moodle provides several ways for instructors to record grades in the gradebook. When grading from within a Moodle activity (assignments or quizzes), grades will automatically appear in a in the gradebook. Additionally, instructors can manually enter and override grades in the gradebook, view and edit the grades for a single student, and view and edit the grades of all students.
This section describes the major functions involved with entering grades in the gradebook, and provides links to specific, step-by-step instructions. Moodle provides a number of ways to assign a grade to a particular item, depending on what type of grade item it is.
NOTE: It is possible to assign a grade that exceeds the maximum point value for the item. For example, you may want to assign a grade of 105/100 on an exam. This is fine and Moodle will calculate the score appropriately, taking into account the bonus points.
IMPORTANT: Moodle gradebook calculates the listed final grade based only on entered grades. Ungraded items are excluded from the final grade in Moodle. Any unsubmitted graded items need to have a grade of "0" entered manually to accurately reflect the student overall performance. Failure to appropriately indicate a "0" for missing items will display an inaccurate final grade.
