This section outlines how you can seamlessly migrate your old iPads data, apps and setting to the new iPad
On your old iPad, connect to Wi-Fi and plug it into power.
Open Settings and tap [Your Name] at the top left.
Sign in to your school apple id if you cannot see your name.
Tap iCloud, then look under the "Apps Using iCloud" section (you may need to tap Show All).
Ensure the toggles for iCloud Drive, Photos, Notes, and any other important apps are turned ON.
Leave the iPad connected to Wi-Fi for a few minutes to ensure any recent changes are saved to the cloud.
On the home screen, open the Settings app.
Tap Sign in to your iPad at the top left.
Enter your School Managed Apple Account and password.
Within a few moments, your photos, notes, and iCloud Drive files will begin silently downloading in the background.
After confirming the data needed is transfered, IT will wipe out the old iPad for other uses.
Your school Apple Account secures your iCloud data, but Apple strictly blocks school accounts from downloading apps from the App Store. To download additional apps, you must link your personal Apple ID only to the App Store:
On your new iPad, open Settings and tap [Your Name] at the top left.
Tap Media & Purchases.
A menu will pop up. Tap Sign Out. (Don't worry, this only signs you out of the App Store; your school data in iCloud remains perfectly safe).
Tap Media & Purchases again.
It will ask if you want to sign in as your school account. Tap Not [Your Name]? at the bottom of the prompt.
Enter your Personal Apple ID and password.
✅ You are done! Your iCloud (Notes, Drive, Photos) is now securely backed up to the school, while your App Store is tied to your personal account so you can download the tools you need.
⚠️ Important Warning About Personal App Data Even though you are using your personal Apple ID to download apps, your iPad is still using your School Apple Account as its primary cloud storage. This means any data you create inside those personal apps (like personal journals, drawings, or budgets) will automatically sync to the school's cloud.
It will not sync to your personal iPhone or Mac.
If you ever leave the school, you will lose access to this data.
How to protect your personal data: If you download a personal app and want its data to remain entirely private and separate from the school's cloud, open Settings > [Your Name] > iCloud > Show All (under "Apps Using iCloud") and turn OFF the toggle for that specific app. This will force the app to save data locally on the iPad rather than in the school's cloud.
