Halloween at DSF
Halloween is this week! Here is some important info for your students:
In keeping with tradition, our Freeman Seniors will enjoy the senior privilege of dressing up for Halloween if they choose to. I wanted to share a few stipulations with you and them to make sure our school and our students stay safe this Halloween.
-Only Seniors are permitted to participate.
-The HCPS Code of Conduct still applies, including rules regarding being to class on time, safe conduct in the hallways and standards of appropriate dress.
-Costume masks that cover the whole face and face paint are not permitted; this is a school safety measure.
-Costumes that are deemed offensive, culturally insensitive, or inappropriate for school are not allowed.
We love this tradition and want everyone to have fun, so the smart thing to do is ask a member of the Freeman Admin team about your costume plan ahead of time to make sure you'll be able to participate and have fun on the big day!

Annual College and Career Night
Students and families are invited to attend the 2023 HCPS College and Career Night at Deep Run High School on Wednesday, November 1st at 6:00 pm. Students can meet with dozens of colleges and employers as they make postsecondary plans. Registration is not required, though students are encouraged to pre-register in order to save time at the event. To pre-register, click here. To learn more about the event, click here.
Building a strong relationship and and open line of communication between teachers and families is critical to our goals of a Freeman Family for all building learners and leaders who change the world. To that end, Freeman High School will be holding teacher conferences on Tuesday, November 7 from 1:00 – 4:00 PM, and on Thursday, November 9 from 4:30 – 7:30 PM. For a variety of reasons including to accommodate Freeman as a polling location for Elections on November 7th, we will divide conferences into Virtual Conferences (via Microsoft Teams) on 11/7 and in-person conferences on 11/9.
An online sign-up is available to schedule appointments with the teachers you wish to meet with. If you are unable to access the online sign-up, please email the teacher(s) or call the school at 804-673-3700.

Athletic Department Contact Information:
All students were made aware this month that only students In good standing may attend extracurricular events such as football games, dances, or other after school events. All students begin the school year in good standing, but consequences related to behavior, unexcused absences, or poor academic motivation can lead to a student losing that status and unable to attend those events for a designated period of time. Families and students would be notified of loss of in good standing status, but with homecoming a month away, now is a great time to reiterate the importance of meeting school expectations in order to attend that event.
You can now report student absences online!
Simply go to www.atdsf.com to Parent Links, click on Attendance Forms and provide the necessary information.
Reminder that all absences longer than 3 days must be approved by Dr. Marshall.
Thank you to all of the parents/guardians for the class of 2024 who joined school counseling and administration for the senior parent night. You may access a copy of the presentation here.
The ASVAB test will be administered in the Freeman library on Tuesday January 30th at 9am. Student drop-off and pick-up locations are in the student parking lot behind the Baseball field, off of Camden Drive. Parents are asked to pull into the main student parking lot when picking up students at dismissal. Parents should not use the visitor's parking lot off in front of the school to drop off or pick up students during the start of the school day (8:30 to 9:15 a.m.) or at dismissal (3:30 to 4:15 p.m.). Please note that it is extremely unsafe, at any time of the day, to drop students off on the curb min front of the school. The Drivers’ Education Lot across Camden Drive is ONLY for buses. Let’s ensure the safety of our young drivers by following this request. See the picture below for clarification.
The HCPS Code of Conduct stipulates that student cell phones must be off and away during instructional time. This year at DSF, students may be asked to place their phone in a designated location in most classes during class time. Students who do not and whose phone is out without permission during class time will have that device confiscated and turned into the main office.
Phones will be returned to parents and guardians. Students may use the main office landline to inform parents that their phone was confiscated.
