The Freeman Family lost an incredible person, Nicholas Troutman Class of 2021, in Feb 2023 due to a tragic car accident. His friends and family have created a scholarship with Henrico Education Foundation in his memory. We encourage any DSF senior that is planning to go to a four year college, community college or trade school and has an entrepreneurial spirit to check out the application and apply. If you would like to support the scholarship by donating, please go to Chick-Fil-A on 11/21/23 or El Caporal on 12/18/23 and mention Nick’s name. Live your best life! 💙
Thank you to all of the parents/guardians for the class of 2024 who joined school counseling and administration for the senior parent night. You may access a copy of the presentation here.
Signs of Suicide (SOS) Lessons
Each year, the school counseling department conducts classroom lessons with all Health/PE 10 classes on “Signs of Suicide.” This year, the SOS lessons will take place on December 4th and 5th. Families of students enrolled in Health/PE 10 this year will receive more information, including an opt out, in the coming weeks directly from their Health/PE 10 teachers. Signs of Suicide is a universal, school-based prevention program that teaches students how to identify the symptoms of depression and suicidality in themselves or their friends and encourages them to seek help using the ACT technique (acknowledge, care and tell). Families may view the HCPS Bridge Builders Academy virtual webinar on the Signs of Suicide here.
Applications for the Advanced Career Education (ACE) Centers are now live. Students interested in applying to one of these CTE programs may access the application here. Applications are due by November 20th.
The first quarter of our school year ended in late October and we have been working to finalize Q1 grades over the last few weeks. Final grades and teacher comments for Quarter 1 are now finalized and can be viewed via the PowerSchool Parent Portal. Paper copies of report cards will not be distributed, however, if you would like a copy of your student’s report card, please reach out to their school counselor who can provide you with a copy.
If you do not yet have a PowerSchool Parent Portal account, please see the information below about creating your account. This is the best way to keep up to date with your student’s grades and attendance regularly and is a key part of the relationship between school and families. I can’t more strongly urge you to set up this account if you have not done so already.
Powerschool Account Instructions:
Please click the link below for directions on creating your PowerSchool Parent Portal account.
Student drop-off and pick-up locations are in the student parking lot behind the Baseball field, off of Camden Drive. Parents are asked to pull into the main student parking lot when picking up students at dismissal. Parents should not use the visitor's parking lot off in front of the school to drop off or pick up students during the start of the school day (8:30 to 9:15 a.m.) or at dismissal (3:30 to 4:15 p.m.). Please note that it is extremely unsafe, at any time of the day, to drop students off on the curb min front of the school. The Drivers’ Education Lot across Camden Drive is ONLY for buses. Let’s ensure the safety of our young drivers by following this request. See the picture below for clarification.
The HCPS Code of Conduct stipulates that student cell phones must be off and away during instructional time. This year at DSF, students may be asked to place their phone in a designated location in most classes during class time. Students who do not and whose phone is out without permission during class time will have that device confiscated and turned into the main office.
Phones will be returned to parents and guardians. Students may use the main office landline to inform parents that their phone was confiscated.
