As we continue to work to ensure that all students feel a part of the Freeman Family, students will be invited to take a brief quarterly School Belongingness survey. This survey will help us improve their experience at school. It's all about ensuring they feel accepted, included, and valued in our school community.
The survey is anonymous and sample questions include:
1. I feel like I belong at this school.
2. I feel accepted by my peers.
3. My teachers care about me.
If you wish to opt your child out of the survey, please complete this opt out form by October 29th
Thank you for your support in making Freeman High School an even better place for our students to thrive and belong.
Halloween at DSF
Halloween is next week! Here is some important info for your students:
In keeping with tradition, our Freeman Seniors will enjoy the senior privilege of dressing up for Halloween if they choose to. I wanted to share a few stipulations with you and them to make sure our school and our students stay safe this Halloween.
-Only Seniors are permitted to participate.
-The HCPS Code of Conduct still applies, including rules regarding being to class on time, safe conduct in the hallways and standards of appropriate dress.
-Costume masks that cover the whole face and face paint are not permitted; this is a school safety measure.
-Costumes that are deemed offensive, culturally insensitive, or inappropriate for school are not allowed.
We love this tradition and want everyone to have fun, so the smart thing to do is ask a member of the Freeman Admin team about your costume plan ahead of time to make sure you'll be able to participate and have fun on the big day!
Dr. Marshall
On Friday, November 10th at 10am we will hold our annual Veteran’s Day Assembly. As part of our program, we would like to recognize and honor the military veterans in our Freeman community. If you have a member of your family who is a veteran or is currently serving in the US military and you would like to help us honor their service, please fill out the linked google form by Wednesday, November 8th. https://forms.gle/HPeraSdgfTNPPkQY6
We look forward to your response!
All students were made aware this month that only students In good standing may attend extracurricular events such as football games, dances, or other after school events. All students begin the school year in good standing, but consequences related to behavior, unexcused absences, or poor academic motivation can lead to a student losing that status and unable to attend those events for a designated period of time. Families and students would be notified of loss of in good standing status, but with homecoming a month away, now is a great time to reiterate the importance of meeting school expectations in order to attend that event.
You can now report student absences online!
Simply go to www.atdsf.com to Parent Links, click on Attendance Forms and provide the necessary information.
Reminder that all absences longer than 3 days must be approved by Dr. Marshall.
Hello Douglas S Freeman High School Parents!!
Each year our College Funding Coach Team partners with Freeman’s PTSA to teach our free workshop called “Little-Known Secrets of Paying for College”. Parents who have attended our workshop in the past have expressed how useful and invaluable the information we share is, so we’ve always made sure to visit Freeman each Fall.
On Tuesday, November 14th at 6:30pm we will be presenting our workshop in person at Freeman High School. The workshop will run approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes. In order to attend the workshop, all you need to do is register using this link!
We look forward to having the opportunity to present this information to you. See you on the 14th!
Thank you to all of the parents/guardians for the class of 2024 who joined school counseling and administration for the senior parent night. You may access a copy of the presentation here.
Thank you to all of our 9th grade families who joined us for the Freshman Parent/Guardian Night on October 10th. A copy of the presentation may be accessed here.
Some colleges and universities require students to submit the Self Reported Academic Record (SRAR) after they have submitted their application. You may view the comprehensive list of SRAR colleges here. Common colleges that utilize the SRAR include: Virginia Tech, Clemson, FSU, LSU, NYU, University of Florida, University of Pittsburgh, and University of Tennessee. Students should see their school counselor with questions.
Applications for the Advanced Career Education (ACE) Centers are now live. Students interested in applying to one of these CTE programs may access the application here. Applications are due by November 20th.

Student drop-off and pick-up locations are in the student parking lot behind the Baseball field, off of Camden Drive. Parents are asked to pull into the main student parking lot when picking up students at dismissal. Parents should not use the visitor's parking lot off in front of the school to drop off or pick up students during the start of the school day (8:30 to 9:15 a.m.) or at dismissal (3:30 to 4:15 p.m.). Please note that it is extremely unsafe, at any time of the day, to drop students off on the curb min front of the school. The Drivers’ Education Lot across Camden Drive is ONLY for buses. Let’s ensure the safety of our young drivers by following this request. See the picture below for clarification.
The HCPS Code of Conduct stipulates that student cell phones must be off and away during instructional time. This year at DSF, students may be asked to place their phone in a designated location in most classes during class time. Students who do not and whose phone is out without permission during class time will have that device confiscated and turned into the main office.
Phones will be returned to parents and guardians. Students may use the main office landline to inform parents that their phone was confiscated.
The Henrico County Code of Conduct mandates a dress code to ensure a proper learning environment. Students are expected to review that policy prior to choosing clothing and those not adhering to dress-code will be asked to change. Those who repeatedly violate this Code of Conduct policy will be subject to disciplinary action. Please help us avoid that situation by speaking with your student about the dress code.
