Henrico County Public Schools Strategic Plan, Destination 2025 – A Plan for HCPS, has four overarching cornerstones for improvement: Safety and Wellness, Academic Growth, Equity and Opportunity, and Relationships. One way we measure progress in these areas is through annual student, family, and staff surveys. These surveys collect input on a broad range of topics related to the Strategic Plan, such as student-parent-staff relationships, equity and inclusiveness, and student engagement.
We are working with the Metropolitan Educational Research Consortium (MERC) in the School of Education at Virginia Commonwealth University to conduct the surveys. Please note that the data provided to the school division by MERC will not contain any identifying information about who is taking the survey.
A link to an online Parent/Guardian Survey will be shared on February 5, 2024, and you will receive reminders throughout the month by way of email, social media, and other announcements.
Students in grades 3-12 will be asked to complete the survey during school, either in-person or virtually, between February 5 and March 1, 2024. Freeman High School Students will be taking the survey between February 19 and March 1, 2024. The survey will take approximately 20 minutes to complete and no identifying information about your child will be collected. The survey will be taken online, but paper copies will be available if needed.
A preview copy of the student survey is available on the division’s website at: https://www.henricoschools.us/page/annual-schools-survey along with additional information including last year’s survey results. If for any reason you do not want your child to take the survey, please fill out the link below by Sunday, February 18th to opt your child out of the survey.
If you have any questions, please contact Dr. Tiffany Hinton, Director of Assessment, Research, and Evaluation, at tshinton@henrico.k12.va.us.
Thank you for taking the time to support this process! Feedback from students and families is essential to our progress.

Also, we have a few approaching deadlines: February 26 is our deadline for senior tribute ads. If you would like to purchase our first-ever signature booklet, the deadline is April 15. I’m attaching the flyer with ordering information from an earlier email.
Also, the deadline for senior quotes is February 17. If your senior wants to include a quote to accompany their portrait in the yearbook, the form is in Schoology.

Join Rachel Holcombe, M.Ed. and school counseling for a presentation on supporting students with disabilities in their transition from high school to post-secondary education. Rachel will discuss applicable laws, changes in the levels of support, and how parents can be involved in the accommodation process. Rachel's most recent role was as Assistant Director in the Student Accessibility and Educational Opportunity Office at Virginia Commonwealth University. In this position, she approved accommodations for students, developed training for faculty/staff on how to implement those accommodations, and ran a support group for students with chronic illnesses with University Counseling Services. We hope you will take away helpful information on how to support your student as you navigate the next stage in their academic journey. This event will be held in the DSF Library on February 28th from 6-7pm.

MIDYEAR TRANSCRIPTS - UPDATE
The following information has been provided to the class of 2024 regarding midyear transcripts: Seniors - Please review this post carefully. This is an update regarding ordering your midyear transcripts. If any colleges are requesting your midyear transcript or if you want to make sure a college receives your semester 1 grades, please follow these instructions:
Log-in to Parchment and order your transcript.
The destination for your transcript should be to the individual college, NOT to Common App. If you need to send a midyear transcript to VCU, VT, Randolph Macon, and Hampton University, you will need to submit FOUR separate orders.
Make sure to select “HOLD FOR GRADES.”
We anticipate releasing midyear transcripts on February 1st at the earliest.
Freeman High School will be holding an immunization clinic on February 9th from 9am – 12 pm. This is a quick and easy way to ensure your student is update to date on all immunizations for the following year.
As a reminder the following vaccinations are required and failure to provide proof of vaccination prior to the first day of school will result in the exclusion from school next year until proof of immunization is received by the school/clinic:
Meningococcal (meningococcal conjugate vaccine (MenACWY): One dose is required at age 16 or older and required for 12th grade entry.
A link to the requirements is available under “Immunizations” at https://www.henricoschools.us/documents/departments/health/immunizations/423062/. If you have any additional questions, please contact the clinic by calling the school.
Student drop-off and pick-up locations are in the student parking lot behind the Baseball field, off of Camden Drive. Parents are asked to pull into the main student parking lot when picking up students at dismissal. Parents should not use the visitor's parking lot off in front of the school to drop off or pick up students during the start of the school day (8:30 to 9:15 a.m.) or at dismissal (3:30 to 4:15 p.m.). Please note that it is extremely unsafe, at any time of the day, to drop students off on the curb min front of the school. The Drivers’ Education Lot across Camden Drive is ONLY for buses. Let’s ensure the safety of our young drivers by following this request. See the picture below for clarification.
The HCPS Code of Conduct stipulates that student cell phones must be off and away during instructional time. This year at DSF, students may be asked to place their phone in a designated location in most classes during class time. Students who do not and whose phone is out without permission during class time will have that device confiscated and turned into the main office.
Phones will be returned to parents and guardians. Students may use the main office landline to inform parents that their phone was confiscated.
We need your help in ensuring that we have a safe and efficient start to your students morning each day. As a reminder, the visitors parking lot in the front of the school should not be used for student drop off; families should anticipate greater enforcement of this expectation from our security team starting this week. Students need to be dropped off by the tennis courts. The front doors for the school should only be used for students who walk to school each morning. Thank you for our cooperation in this matter so that we can get all students to their first period class in a timely manner.
