Dear Parent/Guardian:
Please make arrangements to pick up your child’s medication from the clinic by June 07, 2023. Any medication left at school will be disposed of June 09, 2023 at 9 am. Henrico County Public School policy requires that medication not be sent home with your child.
You can access a new medication permission form for the upcoming school year. If your child will need medication, please take this form to your physician over the summer for completion and return it to me when school starts in September. Thank you.
All seniors who plan on continuing their education after high school must log in to their Parchment account and request their final transcript be sent directly to the college that they will be attending in the fall (not Common App). Students should select “HOLD FOR GRADES” when submitting this order. Final transcripts will not be processed until late June. No transcripts will be sent without a request submitted via Parchment.
Last month, a new Graduation Plan Progress feature in PowerSchool went live in the Admin, Student, and Parent Portal for all current HCPS students in grades 9-12. This feature provides students, parents/guardians, principals, associate principals, school counselors, and coordinators of assessment and remediation (CARs) with a mechanism to easily view and track an individual student’s progress toward earning the standard credits required for the Virginia Standard, Advanced Studies, or Applied Studies Diplomas. You can access this Parent/Guardian Video Tutorial and Step-By-Step Written Instructions to assist in accessing and using this valuable tool.
SENIORS:
If you would like a small flower pinned on your graduation gown in memory of Mrs. Curry, we are ordering small poppies to pin on our gowns to remember Mrs. Curry and the impact she had on us. These poppies will be available at graduation practice. If you have any questions, please contact Larissa McMahan at hcps-mcmahanlh@henricostudents.org

Common Sense Education Family Tips
Help Kids Fight Cyberbullying and Other Mean Online Behavior: Most kids will encounter mean behavior at some point in their digital lives. For some kids, this experience is a blip that's easily forgotten, while for others it can have deep, long-lasting effects. For parents, the key is staying involved in kids' lives -- both online and off -- so they can step in and offer help if necessary. With guidance from parents and educators, kids can learn how to dodge the drama and stand up for others.
WEEKLY TIP:
Encourage upstanding: Let kids know that supporting a friend or acquaintance who is being bullied can make a big difference. If they feel safe confronting the bully, they should. If not, a private message to the victim can be enough to help someone through a tough time. Speaking up against hate speech is important, too.

Dear Parents and Guardians,
As a reminder for next school year the following vaccinations are now required and failure to provide proof of vaccination prior to the first day of school will result in the exclusion from school next year until proof of immunization is received by the school/clinic:
Meningococcal (meningococcal conjugate vaccine (MenACWY): One dose is required at age 16 or older and required for 12th grade entry.
Any conditionally enrolled students must have their immunizations up to date before the start of this school year. If you need help with getting immunizations: Henrico Health District 804-501-4651 or VCU Children’s Hospital 804-828-2467
A link to the requirements is available under “Immunizations” at www.henricoschools.us/health-safety/.
Proof of all immunizations should be provided to the school or clinic before Aug. 21 the first day of the 2023-24 school year.
Sincerely,
Megan Wiesak, BNS, RN

As a part of our culture of appreciation and acknowledgment of the positive things that happen at DSF each week, we ask our staff to share "Shout-Outs" or positive messages about a colleague from the week prior. We publish them for the whole staff to see as a way of growing the good and celebrating wins.
I'd love to have the community's help. I'll post this link each week and deliver any "shout-outs" to our whole staff in our internal weekly newsletter. If you hear of a cool lesson, or a teacher or counselor goes out of their way to make your student's learning experience better, send in a quick note using the form below. Thanks for considering, your appreciation means a lot!
The HCPS Code of Conduct stipulates that student cell phones must be off and away during instructional time. This year at DSF, students may be asked to place their phone in a designated location in most classes during class time. Students who do not and whose phone is out without permission during class time will have that device confiscated and turned into the main office.
Phones will be retuned to parents and guardians. Students may use the main office landline to inform parents that their phone was confiscated.
Student drop-off and pick-up locations are in the student parking lot behind the Baseball field, off of Camden Drive. Parents are asked to pull into the main student parking lot when picking up students at dismissal. Parents should not use the visitor's parking lot in front of the school to drop off or pick up students during the start of the school day (8:30 to 9:15 a.m.) or at dismissal (3:30 to 4:15 p.m.). Please note that it is extremely unsafe, at any time of the day, to drop students off on the curb in front of the school. The Drivers’ Education Lot across Camden Drive is ONLY for buses. Let’s ensure the safety of our young drivers by following this request.
The Henrico County Code of Conduct mandates a dress code to ensure a proper learning environment. Students are expected to review that policy prior to choosing clothing and those not adhering to dress-code will be asked to change. Those who repeatedly violate this Code of Conduct policy will be subject to disciplinary action. Please help us avoid that situation by speaking with your student about the dress code.
Now more than ever, staying connected with the school and your child’s teachers is important to your child’s success in school. Henrico parents can create accounts to view grades and attendance information through PowerSchool, access assignment information through Schoology, and receive communications through the SchoolMessenger App. If you haven’t already, please take a moment to set up your access to these tools. If you need assistance, please reach out to our Innovative Learning Coach, Jessica Ciokan (jkciokan@henrico.k12.va.us).
