September 4 - Student Holiday
September 21 - Back to School Night
October 11 - Senior Convocation and PSAT
October 27/28 - DSF Homecoming
Our first day of school is Monday, August 21st. Class starts at 9 am (students should not be dropped off prior to 8:30am) Students will report to their First (1st) Period Class, which is the same as their homeroom this year!
Our entry into the building in the morning looks a little different than normal. To accommodate our new safety plan, we will have two points of entry for students on Monday morning. Almost all of our students will enter the building through the bus ramp doors. Car riders and student drivers will walk up through the tennis courts and up the sidewalk along the bus ramp to the bus ramp doors. Walkers and those coming from the Ridge Baptist area can enter through the main hall doors under the “auditorium” side.

Ever had an interest in Teaching? We have a very recent teacher/board sub opening on our team and are searching for interested individuals to step in as a long-term instructor for our nutrition classes, previously taught by Mrs. McMunn, who was promoted this summer. A board sub post is a long-term substitute who plans lessons using our robust curriculum, builds relationships with students and is a full part of our team. Board substitutes require a 4-year college degree, but not a teaching license or teaching degree. The current board sub payment is $200+ per day.
With the nature of this curriculum, we are wondering if there is a solution in our community from someone who loves to cook or with a passion for nutrition or even health and wellness.
If you have interest, please reach out to Carrie Yeatts at cryeatts@henrico.k12.va.us and we will schedule a meeting to share more.
Thanks for considering.
Key Points from the info below:
HCPS is using safety scanners that are faster, more efficient, and more effective than traditional metal detectors. Students will pass through with their backpacks on and keys and cell phones in pockets.
At DSF, all students will enter either the bus ramp or auditorium entrance (this is a change from previous years).
Leave plenty of time on the first day of school for building entry.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
As announced last spring, Henrico County Public Schools will phase in the use of weapons scanners at all schools this year. Scanners should be in place at all high schools on the first day of school; they will be added to middle and elementary school entryways as equipment is received.
Impact on morning arrival should be minimal once students get into the habit of removing their laptops from their backpacks. As we saw in last year’s field test, scanners are much easier to use than traditional metal detectors while providing an essential layer of security.
Please take a few minutes to watch this brief video explaining what students and visitors should expect. Weapon Scanning Video .
This additional layer of security could create new routines in our morning bus and parent drop offs. At DSF, all students will enter either the bus ramp or auditorium entrance (this is a change from previous years). Please Leave plenty of time on the first day of school for building entry.
Please see this letter (below) from our Superintendent, Dr. Cashwell, for even more information on our commitment to school safety in HCPS.
Last month, a new Graduation Plan Progress feature in PowerSchool went live in the Admin, Student, and Parent Portal for all current HCPS students in grades 9-12. This feature provides students, parents/guardians, principals, associate principals, school counselors, and coordinators of assessment and remediation (CARs) with a mechanism to easily view and track an individual student’s progress toward earning the standard credits required for the Virginia Standard, Advanced Studies, or Applied Studies Diplomas. You can access this Parent/Guardian Video Tutorial and Step-By-Step Written Instructions to assist in accessing and using this valuable tool.

Senior families!
We've posted the following information for Seniors on Schoology regarding cap & gown orders. For senior cap & gown orders, only the students have access to fill out the Google Form because I need to collect their Henrico County student e-mails for verification of completion. The main purpose of this is to avoid duplicate entries for orders and also provides an easier way for us to keep track of who has/hasn't completed their order. I'm looking to have all seniors complete this form no later than August 24th in order to ensure that they arrive with enough time to distribute them prior to Senior Convocation. The link to access the form has been posted on the 12th grade Schoology group and on social media, as well. Please click here to access the infographic with this information for your convenience.
If your senior is unable to attend Open House next week and they need to purchase a parking pass, that's no problem! We will continue to sell parking passes to seniors only during all lunches on Tuesday, August 22 and Wednesday, August 23. In order to purchase a parking pass, the "Student Parking Pass Application" must be completed through the PowerSchool Parent Portal until the "Forms" section. All parts of the application must be completed in order for a pass to be issued. Then, when they come to purchase their pass, they must be able to show their driver's license. Temporary driver's licenses are accepted; however, learner's permits are not. You may click here to view that infographic that has been sent out to seniors, as well!
