What is your plan to create in this project?
something cool
What unique qualities will your project have?
It will look cool
Today, I got started and made my list and planning questions and I just started taking the monitor apart, I don't know what I'll make yet.
Today, I took a screwdriver and I chiseled or pryed off the glue from one of the screen or cover things. I also chose to make a little art frame made with a broken screen and covers on both sides.
Today, I put all my things together onto the metal frame and painted the back black, and now I'm waiting for it to dry. Also, I started my reflection.
Today, I finished the 1st coat of paint and finished my reflection
Today, I made the video for it and cleaned up the decoration thing and did some small little touch up things.
Today, I began the next project and turned this one in early.
Reflection
Using stuff from broken monitors, black paint, duct tape, and hot glue, I created a little painting for my room. I made the little painting because I wanted to make something that would be seen and would look cool at the same time. Also, it was nice to actually have to think about what I wanted to make because usually I just make whatever pops in my head first. But, with this, I really had to think and on Day 1 and the first half of Day 2, I just kind of took stuff apart just so it was ready.
During this process, I learned that sometimes things don't go as planned, and with that you also learn how you can improve or how you can change it up to make it a little closer to what you're wanting or you just make it a whole new thing but you think it looks way better than it would've been. Also, when you have to change your plan because something breaks or whatever, don't just give up, you can also ask around if anyone has the thing you're looking for because someone just might have it. So, I learned that sometimes you need to be flexible when you're building something from scratch and only have a few materials to work with.
The 7 standards of the class are Empowered Learner, Digital Citizen, Knowledge Constructor, Innovative Designer, Computational Thinker, Creative Communicator, and Global Collaborator. My project ties to Innovative Designer. It connects to Innovative Designer because I used a monitor and turned it into a little decoration by myself which is what designers do.
A challenge I overcame on this project was figuring out how to get my decoration to look cool and not get blurred out by other things and not having it fall over. I was able to do it by hot gluing the back of it to the metal frame and taping the other wiggly things together and then I just painted it all black so that it wouldn't look bad. I also overcame the challenge of making it look cool. I did that one by taking the screen and cracking it to make these cool cracks and breaks.
Given a chance to do this again, I would change what I made. The reason why I would change it is because I feel like I could've made this even better and make it look even cooler. Another thing I'd change is how many projects I'd made. I'd change that because this was pretty fun to get to make whatever I could out of the monitor and I could've used the other stuff to make another little thing if I had enough time to.
Hastings High School Career and Technical Education Program offers Agriculture, Business Management, Computer Programming, Construction Trades, Culinary Arts, Digital Multimedia, Engineering Design, Finance, Insurance, Marketing. My project connects to the Engineer Design CTE program at Hastings High School. It connects to Engineer design because I engineered when I made the decoration that also works as a dirty mirror.
My project connects to careers in upcycling. It connects to careers in upcycling because for the first time ever even knowing about what upcycling is, I made a little decoration by upcycling a monitor. It also connects to careers in design because I designed a mirror-like thing by designing it from a broken monitor.
