Planning Questions
Are you working by yourself or in a team?
Myself
What materials will you need for your project?
Computer and 3D printer
What is your plan to create in this project?
As many of the things in my list of 10 that I have time for
What unique qualities will your project have?
It will have a lot of detail and will be used probably everyday for most of them and some of them will hopefully be able to move and wiggle.
I made my list of 10 and planning questions and pasted in all of the basic starters.
Today, I checked 8P1 and then I had to help make a 3D printer.
Today, I looked at my ideas and started designing some of them like the wallet and the phone stand.
Today I added some closer measurements to my charging station and put on a ledge and a hole for the charger.
Today, I finished the phone charging station and sent it to get it printed. After, I started making my next project, my desk topper.
Today, I got my desk topper on the printer and now I'm making a whistle.
Today, I finished the whistle and got sent it to get printed. And my desktopper finished up last night and it looks pretty good.
Today, I got my whistle on to the printer and started my reflection.
Today, I got my whistle off the printer and it makes a sound, so it works! I also made my video for the whistle and the Renner sign.
Reflection
Using Tinkercad and 3D printers, I created a desktopper and a whistle. I created the little sign and the whistle because I wanted to challenge myself and make something that is more extreme. For example, the whistle was built with a ball in the center that I had to use a toothpick to get loose instead of just blowing into it to make the sound immediately. Also, with the little sign, I had to use another website to upload my print into Tinkercad.
During this process, I learned many different things. One of the biggest, when you want to make your letters have a cool font, you can go into Google Drawings, make your text, download an SVG, and import to Tinkercad. Also, I learned that 3d printing can be challenging and when you have something that looks good, it might not come out as you planned and then you have to redesign it over and over and after all that you will either get what you wanted from it or it just won't work.
The 7 standards of the class are Empowered Learner, Digital Citizen, Knowledge Constructor, Innovative Designer, Computational Thinker, Creative Communicator, and Global Collaborator. My project ties to Innovative Designer. It connects to Innovative Designer because I made the phone stand and I didn't copy and paste, I made it from scratch. Also, when the phone stand was being made, I put together the angles and made the design completely by myself.
A challenge I overcame on this project was getting my phone stand to print. I was able to do it by making it thicker and adding a little extra glue onto the board. Also, I overcame the challenge of getting my whistle to make a sound. I did that by making the ball a little bigger and I put it closer to the hole so that the toothpick could reach it without breaking anything. Another challenge I overcame was with my whistle, when it finished printing, the whole inside was full of filament. So, I had to poke it with tiny flathead screwdrivers and then take the most narrow needle nose pliers and tug on the filament to take it out.
Given a chance to do this again, I would change the amount of projects I made. The reason why I would change it is because I had a lot of fun creating the whistle and sign. The main reason why it was fun was because I was making these cool things that I can use every day and also because of that feeling when you make a cool 3D print and then it works out perfectly and especially when it works like how you want it to and it won't break.
Hastings High School Career and Technical Education Program offers Agriculture, Business Management, Computer Programming, Construction Trades, Culinary Arts, Digital Multimedia, Engineering Design, Finance, Insurance, and Marketing. My project connects to the engineering design CTE program at Hastings High School. It connects to Engineering Design because I designed my own stuff with help from some tutorials to make a sign, a whistle, and a somewhat phone stand.
My project connects to careers like 3D engineer. It connects to 3D engineers because my whistle can move and make sound which used engineering to make. Also, I used engineering and measurements to make my phone stand the size of my phone. Plus, when I made my desk topper, I sized it up so that it wasn't too big or too small.
