Homeless Prevention

What is homelessness?

Homelessness is when families or individuals don't have a home. It is a problem that more people need to address and do something about. There can be many health issues, physically and mentally, that come from being homeless that can cause fear and anxiety. Stand up and help! It all starts here!

Health issues caused by homelessness

-Bronchitis

-Tuberculosis

-Pneumonia

*Bronchitis is inflammation of your bronchial tubes.

*Tuberculosis is a lung infecting disease.

*Pneumonia is lung inflammation that is caused by a viral infection or a bacteria.

-Depression

-Schizophrenia

-Anxiety

-Substance disorders

*Depression is a disorder that effects your mood. In simple terms it makes a person feel extremely sad and disinterested in most activities.

*Schizophrenia is a brain disorder and is chronic. Some symptoms are, delusions and disorganized speech.

*Anxiety is when a person has continuous excessive or intense worry or fear about normal everyday situations.

What countries have the most homeless people?

The answer to that is:

  1. Nigeria with about 24,400,000

  2. Pakistan with 20 million homeless families/ individuals

  3. Egypt with around 12,000,000 homeless families and individuals

  4. Syria with around 6,568,000

  5. Congo DR with 5,332,000 homeless individuals and families

What is America's relationship with homelessness?

America currently has an estimated 520,000 homeless people. We look at other countries and think that America is fine in comparison. But its not. Just because we have a slightly lower number doesn't mean that its ok. We need to address this, not just knock it down to, "well we have a lower number so we are doing better," and not do anything. We need to do something to make that number lower.

To the side is a chart of the increase of homelessness from 2011 to 2019, and how many homeless people we could have up until 2023.

Here is a video that is making people aware of homelessness. Feel free to watch as much as you like and share with others!
