Cat Abuse

One of the top four animals abused is our furry friends... cats. On this page, we will be discussing the different kinds of abuse, what animal abuse is, and how you can help! Lets get started!

So many cats are abused every second, hour, day, month, and year! They are abused in so many horrible ways. Lets talk about this now:

Animal abuse definition: Animal neglect and animal cruelty: humans causing suffering and harm towards a non-human animal


Ways cats are abused and how cats may act if they are being abused:

  • Cat hoarding - this can be unintentional, but cat hoarding like dog hoarding is when a person(s) take MANY animals and keep them all in the same area. Most hoarding situations include a very dirty, unhealthy, and gross environment. Cat hoarding (also called cat collecting) is the collection of large quantities of cats without the ability to properly care for them. Not everyone with many pets is considered a hoarder.

  • Cats not having their needs met - medical needs, physical needs, etc…

  • Untreated injuries - this can lead to infections and many other health concerns.

  • Over breeding - Over breeding to me means breeding too much, too often from one cat. This would lead to the girl being in poor condition but not inherited defects. Exactly. Overbreeding affects the mother, not the kitten!

  • Malnourished - can have MANY different causes, mostly when cats aren't having their needs met, and it getting worse and worse over time.

  • Physical, intentional harm done to a cat - hitting, throwing, punching, stabbing, etc…

  • A mean cat who acts different, weird, or like it doesn't like people - in SOME cases, if a cat acts weird or scared around people it could be because they are being abused by their owner.

  • "In terms of abuse as a whole, any animal is susceptible. That said, some characteristics are seen more commonly than others, especially in certain circumstances. For instance, young animals tend to be abused more commonly than older animals, intact animals more than spayed or neutered animals, and male dogs more than female dogs."


CATS ARE ABUSED EVERY DAY AND WE ARE JUST LETTING IT HAPPEN.

What can YOU do?

  • Again…DONATE! Donate to help animals in need. Funds are one of the biggest things that hold rescuers back from being able to help more animals, so you could be rescuing an animal from a REALLY bad situation.

  • ALWAYS be aware of possible abuse situations, and be aware of what you need to do in any situation.

  • Foster a cat(s)! Foster so you can help a cat live again! The best way to get an animal comfortable and out of its shell is to take it to a safe environment where they can be comfortable and allow their personality to shine! Give a cat a home, even if it is just temporary.

  • Rescue and/or adopt a cat. SAVE A LIFE!
