CFAs may work with the CFD/CC to create and implement a learning plan called a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for students with significant clinical performance or professional challenges or concerns. Below are some things you should know to optimally support your student.
MOUs are not punitive, but rather, serve as a road map for success as they draw focus to and clearly outline the course objectives or expectations that are challenging for any given student.
The MOU offers strategies and/or tools to support the student. The CFA is well positioned to help students implement their MOU and ensure that the goals are being achieved.
Typically more frequent contact with the student, preceptor, and/or vigilance on the part of the CFA are required in support of the student. In these instances, CFAs are well supported by the CFD and the program leadership team.
Others that may be consulted in the process include: the Course Coordinator, Academic Affairs, and Program Director.
Students may have check-in meetings throughout the term with program leadership. CFA attendance at these meetings may or may not be required, but a detailed summary email will follow such meetings and will include the CFA.
