***TYPHON & SOAP NOTE ASSIGNMENT CHANGE***
Students will be addressing ACNM Hallmarks of Midwifery and/or NPWH Guidelines in the SOAP note, NOT in the Typhon Case Log entries. Instructions in Canvas!
Review the CFA Week-by-Week Timeline as a reference for completing tasks throughout the term.
Review the student's syllabi for both the didactic and clinical courses. Plot out the various assignments and deadlines for submission and review. A summary of assignments across the clinical courses can be found here. Tip: Using google task feature to schedule reminders to review assignments, typhon, or check in with students.
Set up a CFA Workbook for the term by saving to your personal CFA folder in Box for continued use throughout the term. Label CFAName_Workbook_TermYear.xls
Review the preceptor and clinical site checklist emailed to you by Clinical Placement Specialist. If you did not receive this please ask your student to forward from their site release email or reach out to the placement team for a copy.
Log into Canvas and ensure that you have access to the appropriate courses for the term.
Email your student(s) an introductory email. You may use these templates.
Set up standing meetings that work for both you and your student(s) throughout the term to ensure certain and adequate communication. Creating that space early is important! Also, determine the method and terms of routine check ins.
Review student schedules to ensure they are on track to meet their clinical requirements and are engaged in clinical activity throughout the term. Their clinical schedules are due by end of week 1 and are uploaded to Canvas. They should be uploading a copy of the google drive link (set to share with all who have the link) to their clinical schedule google sheet and updating throughout term as changes occur. Please notify CFD and placement team if a student may not be able to meet hours requirements at a particular site.
NURO 6511 students: Review student biosketches directly in Canvas to post at their clinical sites. Here is the template and sample. It is available to students in Canvas in the Clinical & OCI Prep Course. This is due by the end of week 1 of the term.
Peripheral Brain Development: a professional development activity to share with your students on how to create a peripheral brain.
Clinical Skills Checklist: Found in the toolbox of each clinical course. Instruct your student to present this to their preceptor on week 1 and complete as their competency builds. This tool is a great way to frame the competencies of each course and ensure student is on track to meeting their competencies. It also allows students and preceptors to tailor their learning and to seek out patient encounters that meet their course objectives.
Plan out simulations as needed. These are a valuable and optional tool unless the student is without clinical placement in 6510/6511. Simulation does not count towards NCC or AMCB, so students do not document it in Typhon.
Remind students to be up-to-date on their clearances in CastleBranch. They should map out what is due through-out the term to ensure adequate time is given for completion and approval once uploaded. If castlebranch items are not completed and approved by the due date, a student must refrain from clinicals.
Email the preceptor(s) an introductory email. You may use these templates. Ensure the preceptors received the Preceptor Handbook and Quick Start Guide to Precepting.
Evaluate the need for a remote site visit or In-person Site Visit by consulting the CFD.
