GES Families,
Field Day is Friday!!! GES has such a special and unique Field Day experience due to our partnership with the city of Grapevine and proximity to the Pleasant Glade Pool! It's such a fun day for our students and we invite families to join us throughout the day as you're able! Please read carefully through all the details below. If you haven't returned your child's permission slip, please send it back ASAP for them to have access to the pool. Here is the Schedule and Map for the day. We recommend saving a screenshot on your phone for easy reference throughout the day.
All visitors AND volunteers should have Raptor stickers on. If you see a guest without a badge visible, please do not hesitate to ask if they have checked in with the front office. It takes all of us working together to keep our students safe.
We will be providing Fast Passes so we can have badges printed in advance. Guests can click HERE to sign-up for a Fast Pass. This will be required for all volunteers and encouraged for all families planning to stop by on May 16. Fast Passes can be reserved until 3pm on Tuesday, May 13th. Fast Passes will be available for pick-up on Thursday, May 15 at arrival (7:20 - 8:00am) and dismissal (2:45-3:15pm) and also on Friday morning, May 16 at arrival (7:20-8:00am). Fast Pass pick-up will be in secure vestibule.
All restrooms for the day will have signs indicating STUDENT or ADULT. Adults should NOT use student restrooms during the school day. Adult restrooms can be located in the front office, 4th grade hallway, and new 5th grade wing.
There are distinct differences between our visitors and volunteers that we want you all to be aware of:
Volunteers - will have a PINK highlighted name on their Raptor tag
Extensive background check
Can be responsible for groups of students (think chaperone) and interact with students (lead games)
Visitors
Only coming to observe
Should NOT be responsible for any child other than their own and have limited contact with other students
Students must have a signed permission slip to swim at the pool. Students should not bring toys or masks that cover their nose. They may wear goggles.
PreK-2nd - They will only swim in the wade-in pool side that goes up to about 2 ft. deep.
3rd-5th - will swim in the big pool and have access to the Wibit. Students may have to pass a swim test (swim half the length of the pool unassisted) or can wear a life jacket. Teachers will be sure that students whose parents requested a life jacket for their child will have access upon arrival to the pool.
PTA will be providing CHEESE pizza for all students from Nizza Pizza. If your child would also like to purchase a bag lunch for field day from the cafeteria, please complete the half-sheet that was sent home. You may print an additional copy HERE if needed. Students will eat in their classrooms on field day according to their field day schedule. Please complete the form by Tuesday, May 13th and return to school.
PTA is also providing Otter Pops Frozen Popsicles for students and teachers. Your child is encouraged to bring another snack with them for the day as they will be hungry with all the outdoor playtime!
ALL students should be a refillable water bottle for the day!!! Please help us ensure they are all labeled if it means putting some painters tape on it Friday morning with their name. Hopefully they will stay in the wagons but if they are lost, we will be able to return it if it has a name.
What to Wear
Students should wear their NAVY BLUE GES Stars shirts from PTA, and bring swimsuits, towels, sunscreen, change of clothes (including undergarments), water bottle, lunch, goggles (optional), hat (optional).
Girls should wear a one piece, or a tankini, where their midriff/tummy is not showing. If they wear a two piece, they will need to wear a t-shirt over their swimsuit. No strapless suits will be allowed.
Boys may not wear cut off shorts.
If it is sprinkling, or raining, we will proceed with all activities as long as students are safe and are not in any danger. Lifeguards have procedures of when they need to evacuate the pool for inclement weather so we will follow their rules and regulations.
Huge shout-out to Coach Basil for putting together this memorable event each year and thank you to our PTA for all the support and extra hands. We cannot wait to enjoy this great day of fun with our stars!
All my best,
Mrs. Hale
We are so grateful for every kind word, picture drawn, hand-written note, decorated space, time donated, and thoughtful gift that was provided last week. Year after year our PTA and families step up in such a huge way to recognize our teachers and staff at GES for Teacher Appreciation Week. It truly is amazing and goes such a long way in showing your support. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!
There are 2 opportunities before school gets out where students must request a school lunch in advance if they wish to purchase so our cafeteria staff can plan accordingly. Half-sheets were sent home last week. You may print an additional copy HERE if needed.
Our amazing PTA will be purchasing pizza for all students on Field Day, May 16. Students may still choose to bring their own lunch on Field Day and/or purchase a bag lunch from the cafeteria if they don't prefer pizza or want additional food. Students have a picnic lunch in their classrooms on Field Day.
On the Last Day of School, Thursday, May 22, students will be dismissed at 11:45am. If you would like your child to have a bag lunch before they go home and the opportunity to eat, please sign-up on the bottom half of the bright yellow paper.
Lunches will only be prepared for those who reserve them in advance.
We are excited to celebrate College and Career Day tomorrow! Thank you to all the families who have volunteered to share with our students.
Students are encouraged to wear College Colors as we learn about our future career opportunities tomorrow!
Didn't get the emergency notifications on Monday? Please check your Skyward access and settings to be sure you have signed up for both text and emails and that your information is current. Today's events were shared via text, email, website alerts, and GCISD social media.
Students have been busy completing their end of year assessments in both Reading and Math! We are so proud of our students and teachers for all their hard work this year. Reports will be sent home by May 20th with student scores and growth this year. We hope you will take a few minutes to celebrate your child's growth and success with them!
This year our goal for each student was to meet their personal Target Growth in iReady! Each child's growth was determined based on their individual level to start the year. Students who make 100% of their target growth in reading will earn the opportunity to visit the Book Machine. Students who make 100% of their target growth in math will earn the opportunity to visit the toy machine.
If students made their Stretch Growth, that means they grew more than a full year in that particular subject from beginning of the year testing to end of year testing. This is a HUGE accomplishment!
Final votes are coming in and we should have a Book Battle champion by Thursday!
Yearbooks have arrived! They are being sorted and will be delivered this week to classes. We are asking that students keep them at school until next week when they will have a chance to get signatures from their classmates and students in their grade.
Many thanks to our PTA Yearbook Coordinator, Angela Wengrenovich, for putting together our yearbooks this year.
We hope you all will be able to join us for your child's Success Ceremony! This is a long-standing GES tradition. It is a special time for students in each grade level to share what they are most proud of learning that school year. Prior to the ceremonies, all GES students will reflect on their growth with their teachers; and then, the students will decide something they are most proud of learning to be shared at the ceremony.
Below are the times for all Success Ceremonies and celebrations. We will open the doors 30 minutes before each grade level ceremony for check-in and have a place for families to wait in the cafeteria prior to opening classrooms.
This is a live Google Calendar that we will keep updated throughout the year with campus activities. Click the calendar to open it up so you can switch to week or month view and look at future dates. Please check back frequently for new additions.

The green flag has dropped and registration for the 2025-2026 school year is now open. Getting ahead of the pack and registering by Friday, May 16, helps campuses plan since staffing is based on registration numbers. Registering now helps avoid last-minute hiring or staff relocations when the school year begins.
Returning students: Register via Skyward Family Access.
New families: Request a Skyward Family Access account first.
Pre-K: Complete the pre-K online application first.
New siblings: Login to Skyward Family Access and add a new student by selecting the “New Student Online Enrollment” tab.
GCISD’s early childhood program is expanding to include a Pre-K 3 class beginning next school year. The Pre-K 3 class is a state-funded option specifically for eligible students and will be housed at the Early Childhood Development Center (ECDC). As this is the first year of the program, space will be limited. Eligibility criteria is listed on the application form, which is available here. If you have any questions, please email gcisd.pk@gcisd.net.
To ensure the safety and well-being of all our students and our kind neighbors in the surrounding streets, please be sure to utilize the designated campus parking lot and car lines as well as supervised crosswalks. Parking in the neighborhood, especially in marked "no parking" zones, unfortunately creates a potential safety hazard for residents should emergency vehicles need clear access. We have been informed by the Grapevine Police Department that they will be issuing tickets in these restricted areas. Your cooperation in keeping our students and community safe is much appreciated.
We are asking any families who know they are NOT returning to GES for the 2025-2026 school year to please complete the following GES Summer Withdrawal FORM. We need to be sure that we collect necessary technology from your student prior to the end of the year if you are planning to move.
This does not include students moving on to middle school.
Any student who hasn't completed Returning Student Registration by Friday, May 16th will be asked to return their student device and charger before the summer. This will ensure that we have all technology should a family not return to GES in the fall.
To register a returning student click here.
Families who are awaiting a transfer request should register for the campus they are currently zoned for. Transfer requests will be processed at a later date. To view attendance zones, visit our School Maps Online.
It's almost time for all those books to come back! Mrs. Wahpekeche will email notices to parents of what books your child has on Wednesday, May 7th. If you receive a notice, please help your child finish their library books and return them quickly to our library. if you have ANY books on your home bookshelves with GES barcodes on the front, please send them back to school. Any child that returns their books by May 9th will receive a surprise from Mrs. Wahpekeche! Thanks for your help!
You're invited to bring a friend and attend the GCISD DAC Potluck.
Visitors may join us for lunch with their child if they are signed up in advance HERE. Please be sure to share our Sign-up link with your family members who wish to come eat with your child. Also, it is critical that anyone coming to lunch with your child, if not accompanying the guardian, is on your child's emergency contact list.
Lunch guests will sign-in through our secure vestibule with a valid ID, stop by the front office to check-in and receive a visitor badge, and then meet their GES star at the entrance to the cafeteria. Families will have the option to sit outside in the picnic table area for lunch or in our cafeteria at an empty table near the windows. Parents are welcome to bring in outside food when having their lunch with their child. We ask that you please be courteous to the rest of the community and limit lunch visits with your child to no more than one per month so that all families have the opportunity to visit. We appreciate your cooperation.
Each family needs only 1 slot reserved. For example, Mom, Dad, and sister may all come eat lunch with Nancy. Only Mom needs to be registered as 1 visitor to reserve 1 picnic table together. When it asks for quantity of visitors, please select just 1. Lunch visitors may only eat with their child or student. You may not invite friends to sit with you when coming for lunch.

We LOVE our volunteers at GES! This year we are encouraging all families who plan to come to campus and interact with students to go ahead and complete the background check. Volunteers must complete this EACH YEAR beginning in August! It can take 1-2 weeks for your background check to clear. If you plan to be a guest reader, volunteer at a class party, chaperone a field trip, volunteer with PTA, open car doors with our Dad's Club, etc. you will need a completed Background Check! kjkhkuh
The following link takes you to the online Volunteer Handbook and background check: https://www.gcisd.net/o/gcisd/page/volunteer-background-check
In order to volunteer at GES, or around GCISD, all volunteers must:
read the Volunteer Handbook (this replaces the previous face to face volunteer trainings held on campus)
watch the appropriate video included in the handbook
electronically sign the verification Google form for each campus you plan to volunteer
complete the volunteer background check. A link is included in the handbook.
When you are ready to volunteer at GES, feel free to call the front office at 817-251-5735 to verify that both of the required steps have been recorded as completed. We appreciate your support as you complete these steps and volunteer to work with our GES students.
If you are on Facebook, we would love for you to follow our Grapevine Elementary Facebook page if you're not already. We post activities and campus life in addition to helpful reminders. We would love for you to follow our story!
