GES Families,
This week is our Spring Book Fair! We’re excited to host this event, which not only gives students and families a chance to explore and purchase great books but also helps support our school’s library. When you shop, our school will receive 30% of the total amount spent to purchase high-quality library books, which should be ready for checkout by early April.
We have a special Lunch with a Loved One again for Book Fair week! Tuesday-Thursday families may sign-up to eat with their child and shop the book fair during lunch hours. Please sign-up HERE so we can ensure we have plenty of seating. Families will have the opportunity to sit in the back of the cafeteria at the usual seating, on the patio tables to enjoy the nice weather, or on additional tables we may need to set-up on stage. We ask that families please do not sit at the tables with our students, and please refrain from taking friends to eat or to the book fair.
We are always looking for great book fair volunteers! Don't forget, volunteers receive a 20% discount on their book fair purchases! Volunteer here!
Can’t make it to the fair or worried something might be unavailable? No problem! You can still shop and support our school through our online book fair, where you’ll also be able to purchase gift cards for kids and classroom teachers. We can’t wait to see you there and thank you for supporting our school’s library!
All my best,
Mrs. Hale
Thank you so much for participating in our One School One Book program. We hope you enjoyed reading The Wild Robot! This is the start of a 3-book series if you're interested in reading more with your child. Book 2 is called The Wild Robot Escapes and Book 3 in the series is The Wild Robot Protects.
If you borrowed a book from GES, please begin sending those back this week to your homeroom teachers. If you purchased a copy of the book and would like to donate your copy for a future GCISD campus to use, we will be glad to store it with the others.
The robots that families made turned out AMAZING! We couldn't pick just 10, so prizes for our top 13 as well as all who participated will be given out on Tuesday. Be sure to take a look at all our robots on display in the Learning Commons this week during Book Fair!
We know many students received new devices or watches over the holidays and we have seen more students bringing them to school on a daily basis. As a reminder, students are not to have any telecommunication devices on during the school day, this includes any watches that can be used for communication purposes. They must remain OFF in their backpacks during the school day. We have included the information from the GCISD policy that was shared at the beginning of the year as a reminder.
Policy FNCE(LOCAL) limits the use of telecommunications, most commonly cell phones, during the school day. This is also applicable to Smart Watches being used as a communication device. The updated appropriate times and uses of devices are as follows:
Elementary students may use telecommunications devices before and after school only. They may not use telecommunications devices during school hours.
The Student Handbook is also being updated to include the following consequences if students are not in compliance:
First offense: The student will be given a warning and the cell phone or electronic device shall be confiscated by the teacher until the end of the class period and may be picked up after school by the student or parent.
Second offense: The cell phone or electronic device shall be confiscated by the teacher and turned into the main office. The teacher will contact the parent and the device may be picked up after school by the student.
Third offense: The cell phone or electronic device shall be confiscated by the teacher and turned into the main office. The teacher or a campus administrator will contact the parent and the device may be returned only to the parent from the front office during normal school hours.
Fourth offense and subsequent offenses: The cell phone or electric device shall be confiscated by the teacher and turned into the main office. The teacher or a campus administrator will contact the parent. The device may be picked by the parent from the front office after paying a fee of $15.
The campus principal may use discretion for appropriate discipline consequences for persistent misbehavior if repeated infractions occur.
Refusal to surrender the phone is a violation of the student code of conduct and will result in disciplinary consequences in addition to the consequences outlined above.
If a personal telecommunications device is not retrieved, the District shall dispose of the device after providing notice required by law. The district shall dispose of the devices for which timely notice has been given at the end of each semester.
Except for Collegiate Academy and iUniversity Prep, there will be no school for students on Friday, February 14. This day was originally scheduled as a bad weather make-up day, however, GCISD’s 2024-2025 instructional calendar has a sufficient number of minutes to cover the recent weather-related closure and the days will not have to be made up.
Additionally, except for Collegiate Academy, Monday, February 17, is a professional development day and there will be no school for students, including iUniversity Prep.
Please see your school’s instructional calendar below:
This is a live Google Calendar that we will keep updated throughout the year with campus activities. Click the calendar to open it up so you can switch to week or month view and look at future dates. Please check back frequently for new additions.

Today was Mathematics Monday in the cafeteria! We’re bringing the joy of numbers and problem-solving to life in a fun and delicious way for all our elementary and middle school students.
Students had Special Math-Inspired Treats: Every student who selected a plate lunch on Mathematics Monday received a special treat that comes with a fun math problem. This event is designed to show how math is everywhere – even at lunchtime!

We made a few adjustments to the spring Principal Book Club Dates and grade levels based on participation in the fall. Our PreK and Kinder session will now be the end of February and our April session will be open to 1st-3rd graders for robotics.
All sessions will be from 3:00-3:45 in the GES Learning Commons. A sign-up will be sent a few weeks prior to the event so we know how many families to prepare for.
Regularly checking your student's grades in Skyward is essential for their academic success. By reviewing their grades frequently, you can easily identify any missing, incomplete, or failing assignments. This proactive approach allows you to address any issues early on, ensuring that your child stays on track and receives the support they need. Open communication about academic performance fosters a positive learning environment and encourages students to take responsibility for their education. Your involvement makes a significant difference in their academic journey!
Here is a Google Slideshow to help you look at Skyward on your child's school device.
This year our instructional calendar includes the Friday before Spring Break as a Bad Weather make-up day, so Open House will be Tuesday, March 11 from 6-7pm. This will be a come and go event as it has been in the past for students to share the amazing work they have been doing in class and progress towards their goals. We hope you will plan to join us!
Our PBIS committee is pleased to offer an optional Reward Chart and Chore Chart for families to use at home! These tools are designed to help connect school routines with home life, creating a consistent environment for our students. The Reward Chart can be used to acknowledge and celebrate positive behaviors, while the Chore Chart encourages responsibility and accountability at home. By aligning these charts with school expectations, students will understand the importance of their actions at school and at home. We encourage you to customize these charts to fit your family's needs and to engage your child in the process. Together, we can foster positive habits and reinforce the skills they are learning at school!
Angela Wengrenovich Photography will be on campus March 4-6, 2025 to provide Modern School Photos for our Spring Photos. You can see an example of what to expect here - https://www.angelawengrenovichphotography.com/schoolphotos/ More information to follow.
The tuition-based pre-K lottery for the 2024-2025 school year opens January 13, 2025. Give your child the chance to shine with GCISD's exceptional curriculum and dedicated faculty!
Visitors may join us for lunch with their child if they are signed up in advance HERE. Available Feb 3-28. Please be sure to share our Sign-up link with your family members who wish to come eat with your child. Also, it is critical that anyone coming to lunch with your child, if not accompanying the guardian, is on your child's emergency contact list.
Lunch guests will sign-in through our secure vestibule with a valid ID, stop by the front office to check-in and receive a visitor badge, and then meet their GES star at the entrance to the cafeteria. Families will have the option to sit outside in the picnic table area for lunch or in our cafeteria at an empty table near the windows. Parents are welcome to bring in outside food when having their lunch with their child. We ask that you please be courteous to the rest of the community and limit lunch visits with your child to no more than one per month so that all families have the opportunity to visit. We appreciate your cooperation.
Each family needs only 1 slot reserved. For example, Mom, Dad, and sister may all come eat lunch with Nancy. Only Mom needs to be registered as 1 visitor to reserve 1 picnic table together. When it asks for quantity of visitors, please select just 1. Lunch visitors may only eat with their child or student. You may not invite friends to sit with you when coming for lunch.

We LOVE our volunteers at GES! This year we are encouraging all families who plan to come to campus and interact with students to go ahead and complete the background check. Volunteers must complete this EACH YEAR beginning in August! It can take 1-2 weeks for your background check to clear. If you plan to be a guest reader, volunteer at a class party, chaperone a field trip, volunteer with PTA, open car doors with our Dad's Club, etc. you will need a completed Background Check! kjkhkuh
The following link takes you to the online Volunteer Handbook and background check: https://www.gcisd.net/o/gcisd/page/volunteer-background-check
In order to volunteer at GES, or around GCISD, all volunteers must:
read the Volunteer Handbook (this replaces the previous face to face volunteer trainings held on campus)
watch the appropriate video included in the handbook
electronically sign the verification Google form for each campus you plan to volunteer
complete the volunteer background check. A link is included in the handbook.
When you are ready to volunteer at GES, feel free to call the front office at 817-251-5735 to verify that both of the required steps have been recorded as completed. We appreciate your support as you complete these steps and volunteer to work with our GES students.
If you are on Facebook, we would love for you to follow our Grapevine Elementary Facebook page if you're not already. We post activities and campus life in addition to helpful reminders. We would love for you to follow our story!
