GES Families,
We are excited about this last week of school together to celebrate the holidays as we wrap up the end of the semester. We are finishing middle of the year testing, completing final assessments, and ensuring that students have turned in all assignments. I shared with the students on announcements this morning that we can "work hard and play hard." We have to get our work done first this week and then we can enjoy holiday festivities and activities together.
We invite our students to dress up with us this week if they would like. These dress-up days are purely optional, but the students like to be involved in the fun. Last week they helped us count Christmas trees and finish lyrics to popular songs. This week we look forward to our special visitors for Grinch Day and Elf Day followed by our campus sing-along and parties.
All my best,
Mrs. Hale
There are not regularly schedule lunches on half-days for students. If your child will need to purchase a bag lunch from the cafeteria on Friday, Dec. 20 for our half-day, please complete this FORM by Thursday, Dec. 19th at noon or send them with a lunch box. Students will pick up their bag lunches around 10:30 before returning to their classrooms for class parties and have the opportunity to eat while they party before going home.
We look forward to celebrating the end of the semester with our students, staff, and families on Dec. 20th at 10:45am. Holiday Parties are always a fun time for everyone as we finish the semester and wish each other well for the holiday break. Our homeroom parents and PTA have been busy preparing to make them an exciting experience for our students. Families are invited to join us, but we ask that ALL families complete a background check to attend. You can find the information to complete HERE. The process can take a few days, so please do it now if you haven't done it this year. A new background check is required beginning in August each school year.
Fast Passes are available to help expedite the sign-in process for parties. We will begin allowing families to pick-up Fast Passes on Thursday, Dec. 19th at dismissal from 2:45-3:15pm, Friday morning during arrival from 7:20-7:45am, and again starting at 10:30am before the parties. We hope this will alleviate the time families have to spend waiting in the gym before doors open for parties. If your badge is already printed and picked up in advance, simply wear your badge and present your license as you enter the building. Instructional Hallways will open at 10:45am for parties on Dec. 20th. You can sign up HERE for a Fast Pass.
Dismissal for all students on Friday, Dec. 20 will be at 11:45am. Please make appropriate arrangements for your child.
We will send home score reports for Middle of the Year testing when we return from break on Jan. 8th with report cards. While we would have liked to have sent them sooner, we still have students completing make-up testing this week and all campuses will be sending after teacher's receive additional training on Jan. 6 and 7. Thank you for your understanding.
We invite our 4th grade families for a holiday performance on Tuesday, Dec. 17 at 6:30 pm in the school cafeteria! Our 4th grade students will be performing If You Take a Mouse to the Movies: A Holiday Music Program. They have been practicing hard for weeks and are very excited! They will perform at 9am for students and staff only and at 6:30pm for families. Please send students in red, green, or white shirts.
Our January lunch sign-up is now available beginning Jan. 8th. As a reminder, we kindly ask that each family reserve only 1 spot per month so that all families have the opportunity to come and eat with their child. We have 6 spots per grade level per day for families. Now that the weather is getting cooler, families may choose to enjoy sitting on the patio at our picnic tables with their child for lunch.
Please remember to sign-up HERE and bring your valid ID to sign-in to the kiosks when you arrive. If you want to sit outside on the patio, please get a badge from the front office that will let you back into the building after lunch.
This is a live Google Calendar that we will keep updated throughout the year with campus activities. Click the calendar to open it up so you can switch to week or month view and look at future dates. Please check back frequently for new additions.
Our Fifth Grade Committee is busy planning a GROOVY GLOW DANCE for Friday, January 31st. Stay tuned for more details and ticket sale information after the holiday break! We'd love for you to mark your calendar and have your family join us for a groovy good time.
GES PTA wants to give a huge thank you to VP Homerooms Abby Embry, all of our Grade Level Coordinators, and our Homeroom Parents for their hard work and effort planning this Friday's holiday parties. This year all of the parties are fully funded using PTA budget so many thanks to our members and everyone who supports our fundraisers!
Our November Volunteer of the Month is Meghan Decker. Meghan serves as our Fifth Grade Coordinator and Council of PTAs Delegate. She logged many hours last month planning concessions at Movie Night, helping the staff appreciation committee, making copies for teachers, volunteering in the classroom, attending Council meetings, and helping in many other ways. We are so grateful for Meghan's continued dedication to GES and PTA!
We know many of you are shopping for teachers and staff this holiday season and want to remind you that we keep teacher and staff favorite lists on the PTA website here: https://www.gespta.org/teachers-favorites
EDP is excepting new students for the new year! Sign up today!
The holiday season is here, and so is our beloved Holiday Bells Celebration! Each December, our teachers participate in a festive holiday calendar, earning bells for joining in daily themes that bring excitement and joy to the whole school. This is something both teachers and students look forward to all year long!
After the students leave on December 20th, our staff will have the opportunity to "spend" their hard-earned bells on a variety of treats like Sonic drink passes, duty coverage, jeans passes, and more. We also aim to have a few special, big-ticket items for raffles, adding even more excitement to the celebration.
We would appreciate any support in helping make this event truly memorable! If your family has a business, connections, or would like to donate a gift card or special item for our staff holiday bells, we would be incredibly grateful. Contributions can be sent to the attention of Mrs. Hale or Mrs. Menard for the staff celebration on or before December 18.
Thank you for helping us show our teachers just how much we appreciate them. Your generosity will make this season extra magical for those who make a difference every day.
Friendly reminder to please have your child check the Lost and Found if you are missing any jackets, water bottles, lunch boxes, etc. We have MANY items that are piling up.
Also, if you label items it is much more likely that we will be able to get them back to your child! We check them regularly, show them on the morning announcements, and try our best to get students back their items. Names help us tremendously before we have to donate them.
We are completely out of snacks in the front office for students who may have food insecurities. Individual teachers may have snacks in their classrooms for students that have forgotten on occasion, but for some of our families, providing a nutritious snack each day to assist their GES star’s performance throughout the day does not happen consistently because of food insecurities. If you are able, please donate individually packaged Goldfish, Cheez-its, or pretzels in order to help us provide that snack for students that arrive at school without it because of the insecurities. This would not pertain to students that simply forgot a snack that day. If your Star forgets his/her snack often, sending multiple days worth of snacks might help. For questions, please feel free to contact Angela Horn at angela.horn@gcisd.net or 817-251-5740. Thank you for your continued generosity and thoughtfulness.
The referral window for students interested in Gifted and Talented services is December 2 - December 20, 2024. (This referral window also applies to any current GT LEAD students interested in applying for the ASPIRE ACADEMY).
Parents interested in having their child assessed for GT services need to complete the form in Skyward by Friday, December 20th. A typical indicator for a strong candidate for GT testing is a student scoring in the 90th percentile and above in their diagnostic testing or scoring Masters on STAAR. If you believe your child would be a strong candidate, refer them today. You can find the recommendation form in your child's Skyward account.
Campus GT specialists will administer any necessary testing from January 8 - 28, 2025. Parents will be notified through Skyward regarding results as soon as the district assessment process is completed.
Thank you for your cooperation and support of Grapevine-Colleyville ISD and its educational programs.
School opens at 7:20am and the tardy bell rings at 7:40am. We begin KGES announcements immediately following the tardy bell. It's important for students to arrive on time and be ready to start the day with their peers and complete their morning routine. Please help us by dropping off students no later than 7:35am so they can make it to their classrooms by 7:40am. We appreciate your help.
Our PreK-2 playground is technically only for use of our Extended Day Program from 3-6pm each evening. They have graciously allowed families to use the playground during dismissal as we have several families who wait for the Aspire bus to return each afternoon. We ask that all families please respect the EDP boundaries and clear the playground by 3:15pm each afternoon immediately upon arrival of the Aspire GCISD bus. Additionally, it is vital that all parents monitor their children while they are on the playground. Children are never to play unattended while they wait for family members to come pick them up.
Our 3rd-5th grade playground can be used later in the afternoon but we ask that all students be supervised by an adult while using our facilities after hours.
Visitors may join us for lunch with their child if they are signed up in advance HERE. Available Dec 2-19. Please be sure to share our Sign-up link with your family members who wish to come eat with your child. Also, it is critical that anyone coming to lunch with your child, if not accompanying the guardian, is on your child's emergency contact list.
Lunch guests will sign-in through our secure vestibule with a valid ID, stop by the front office to check-in and receive a visitor badge, and then meet their GES star at the entrance to the cafeteria. Families will have the option to sit outside in the picnic table area for lunch or in our cafeteria at an empty table near the windows. Parents are welcome to bring in outside food when having their lunch with their child. We ask that you please be courteous to the rest of the community and limit lunch visits with your child to no more than one per month so that all families have the opportunity to visit. We appreciate your cooperation.
Each family needs only 1 slot reserved. For example, Mom, Dad, and sister may all come eat lunch with Nancy. Only Mom needs to be registered as 1 visitor to reserve 1 picnic table together. When it asks for quantity of visitors, please select just 1. Lunch visitors may only eat with their child or student. You may not invite friends to sit with you when coming for lunch.

We LOVE our volunteers at GES! This year we are encouraging all families who plan to come to campus and interact with students to go ahead and complete the background check. Volunteers must complete this EACH YEAR beginning in August! It can take 1-2 weeks for your background check to clear. If you plan to be a guest reader, volunteer at a class party, chaperone a field trip, volunteer with PTA, open car doors with our Dad's Club, etc. you will need a completed Background Check! kjkhkuh
The following link takes you to the online Volunteer Handbook and background check: https://www.gcisd.net/o/gcisd/page/volunteer-background-check
In order to volunteer at GES, or around GCISD, all volunteers must:
read the Volunteer Handbook (this replaces the previous face to face volunteer trainings held on campus)
watch the appropriate video included in the handbook
electronically sign the verification Google form for each campus you plan to volunteer
complete the volunteer background check. A link is included in the handbook.
When you are ready to volunteer at GES, feel free to call the front office at 817-251-5735 to verify that both of the required steps have been recorded as completed. We appreciate your support as you complete these steps and volunteer to work with our GES students.
If you are on Facebook, we would love for you to follow our Grapevine Elementary Facebook page if you're not already. We post activities and campus life in addition to helpful reminders. We would love for you to follow our story!
