GES Families,
We hope everyone will join us for our annual PTA Fall Carnival this Sunday, October 20th from 2- 5 PM. Our Carnival Team led by Laura Adams and Mary Moses along with Volunteer Coordinator Gina Cowan have been hard at work for many months working to make this a fun family event for our whole community.
This year's Carnival will feature some returning favorites like face painting, inflatables, game booths, and the chance to splash some of your favorite staff members at the splash tower. We also have some new things this year, including a rock climbing wall, a spirit wear table with earrings and hair accessories, a sensory space for SPED students (accompanied by an adult loved one), and an allergy-free zoned table in the cafeteria.
We still need help making Carnival a success! Please consider signing up for a short volunteer shift. We also need donations for two of our favorite game booths. We need 2 liter sodas for Ring Toss and store-bought baked goods for our Cake Walk. These can be left in the secure vestibule all week. There will also be volunteers at morning drop off Thursday, October 17th and Friday, October 18th collecting your donations.
If you pre-ordered Star Cards, which are our Carnival currency, they will be sent home in student folders this week. Star Cards will also be available for purchase at Carnival.
The deadline to order Meat U Anywhere has been extended to October 16th. Don't miss out on their amazing brisket, churros, nachos, and more! We will also have Kona Ice for sale with cash or credit cards and concession items such as cotton candy and popcorn to purchase with star cards.
This is always a favorite event for the year for both students and families! We hope you will join us!
All my best,
Mrs. Hale

Wear and share orange to help prevent bullying by sharing a message of kindness, promoting acceptance, and encouraging inclusion.
Friday, Oct. 11 was the end of the first nine weeks of school. Report cards will post to Skyward on Wednesday and families should receive an email letting you know they are available to view in your child's account. Thank for taking time to review them with your child.
Our campus PBIS Committee, comprised of staff and parents, proposed a new idea to begin recognizing our students for their academic achievements. We do many things as a campus to recognize students for making positive choices and hitting their goals! With the shift to number grades, teachers and parents expressed a need to have something linked directly to academic achievement to help motivate and inspire our students with regards to their everyday work. We are excited to share that this year, our 3rd-5th grade students will have the opportunity to earn vinyl stickers in the following categories: A Honor Roll, A/B Honor Roll, and Academic Achievement.
After grades post on Wednesday, teachers will recognize the students in their homeroom class who meet these achievements by presenting them with a custom Grapevine Elementary sticker. Grades for Honor Roll include all core subject areas and PE, Art, and Music. We hope you will join us celebrating your child's success or continuing to encourage them for future opportunities.
Students who had no more than 1 excused absence and 1 tardy for the 1st nine weeks of school will receive a Perfect Attendance Award on Friday. They will receive a certificate for a free kids meal and a token to use in the toy machine in the foyer. Congratulations to all our students and thank you families for keeping school attendance a top priority!
Our Book Character Parade is a beloved GES tradition! Save the date for Thursday, October 31st at 8:00am. Parents are invited to come stand and watch from the exterior of the building as students and staff parade around the outside.
Students are encouraged to dress up as a Book Character of their choice. This will be in combination with our Red Ribbon Week dress-up days that you will see below.
Since its beginning in 1985 in response to the death of DEA Agent Enrique Camarena, parents and youth in communities across the country began wearing Red Ribbons as a symbol of their commitment to raise awareness of the destruction caused by drugs in America.
In honor of Camarena's memory and his battle against illegal drugs, friends and neighbors began to wear red badges of satin. In 1988, NFP sponsored the first National Red Ribbon Celebration. Today, the Red Ribbon serves as a catalyst to mobilize communities to educate youth and encourage participation in drug prevention activities. The National Family Partnership (NFP) and its network of individuals and organizations continue to deliver his message of hope to millions of people every year, through the National Red Ribbon Campaign®.
At GES and across the nation, schools participate in fun dress-up theme days to remind us of this positive message!
This is a live Google Calendar that we will keep updated throughout the year with campus activities. Click the calendar to open it up so you can switch to week or month view and look at future dates. Please check back frequently for new additions.
Exciting news! Spirit wear is in and will be delivered to classrooms later this week. If you pre-ordered items, they will be sent home with your older student Thursday or Friday. Many thanks to our Spirit Shop Coordinator Ashleigh Panelli and to PTA Aide to the President Kelli Carpenter for all of their hard work picking items, working with our vendor, and organizing orders!
Each year GES PTA funds are used to purchase a school shirt for every student and staff member. Students are asked to wear these shirts to field trips and to Field Day in May. Your student's shirt will be sent home with them later this week.
Adult shirts are available to pre-order if you would like to order one. They are great to wear when chaperoning field trips or volunteering. Pre-orders are now open on our website and close Friday, October 25th. You can order on our website here: https://www.gespta.org/form/m/306740
Our September Volunteer of the Month is Keri Rardon. As Auction Coordinator Keri has been hard at work for many months soliciting donations, picking up items, arranging auction baskets, and creating our auction website. She also serves as our school packs coordinator and made sure they were ready for pick up in August. She is an amazing volunteer and PTA leader and we appreciate all she does for GES and GES PTA!
Boo-gie Gram order forms will be coming home in student folders soon. These forms will need to be returned by October 29th. This year friendship bracelets will be attached to the grams. Each gram is $1 and all funds raised will go towards 5th Grade Graduation and the class gift.
GCISD has multiple resources available to answer questions about the upcoming voter-approved tax ratification election (VATRE) that will be on the November 5 ballot:
Attend a community presentation scheduled for 6 p.m., Thursday, October 17, at the district’s Professional Development and Education Center (PDEC), 5800 Colleyville Blvd. in Colleyville, TX 76034.
Watch the district’s Facebook Live presentation available on GCISD’s YouTube Channel and the district’s Facebook page. The presentation on YouTube is also separated by chapters so you can jump to a specific topic, such as “Why a VATRE” or “Understanding What You Will See on the Ballot.”
Visit the district’s VATRE webpage at www.GCISD.net/VATRE, which has tax rate information, frequently-asked questions and answers and more.
As a reminder,
GCISD will have a lower overall tax rate with VATRE approval - With the passage of the VATRE, the overall tax rate (Maintenance & Operations + Interest & Sinking) will be $0.0014 less than the 2023 rate of $0.9247.
100% of funds stay in GCISD - The three-cent increase will be made of “golden pennies.” Tax funds collected through these pennies are not subject to recapture, meaning 100 percent of these funds remain in GCISD.
The impact to GCISD will be $6 million - The passage of the VATRE would result in approximately $6 million in funding for teachers and staff, instruction and student programs, and daily operating expenses (utilities, maintenance, supplies).

Our first Principal’s Book Club was a great success! We are excited for the next opportunity on Wednesday, October 23rd from 3:00-4:00pm! Please click HERE to sign-up by Monday, October 21st at 3pm. This month the focus is 1st and 2nd grade and our theme is dinosaurs.
This initiative is designed to foster a love of reading and promote literacy skills that are crucial for young students' academic growth and lifelong success. At the heart of this club is the belief that strong literacy skills are the foundation for learning. Reading not only enhances vocabulary and comprehension but also stimulates imagination, critical thinking, and creativity. By engaging students in reading from a young age, we help them build these essential skills, which will benefit them throughout their educational journey.
The Principal’s Book Club is designed for students and guardians to enjoy together and will be hosted in our GES Learning Commons by Mrs. Hale and Mrs. Wahpekeche. During these gatherings, we will explore different pieces of literature together, discuss themes, and practice strategies for reading aloud with students. Parents and guardians will have the chance to learn effective ways to support their children’s reading at home, participate in fun reading activities, and even take home ideas for activities to try as a family.
Each month, we will focus on specific grade levels and themes, tailoring the experience to meet the needs and interests of our students. (See graphic for dates, grade levels and our first theme!) Whether it's exploring adventure stories, learning about different cultures, or diving into classic fairy tales, there will be something for everyone.
RESPONSIBILITY is the character trait focus for this month. Responsibility will be defined as taking action and understanding the impact of your choices. Teachers will also be nominating students based on showing the most responsibility or growing the most in responsibility for Star Student of the Month. Consider partnering with GES by reviewing the family connection newsletter HERE.
Want a new way to say "Happy Birthday" to your child on their special day? You can sign up to have your child's "Happy Birthday" message placed on the GES digital marquee from 6:30am - 8:30pm on their big day! Complete this digital form, and then send payment to GES by October 31st! You can send $20 cash or check to the front office with your child or drop it by the office to Mrs. Sharp. Please put cash in an envelope c/o Gina Sharp with your child's name. Messages will begin as early October 9, but payment must be received in advance to secure your message.
Friendly reminder to please refrain from sending any food products to celebrate student birthdays. We cannot provide baked goods of any kind to students or classes on their birthdays. We also ask that you not have any candy or treats in birthday bags if you send for the whole class. You may choose to send pencils, small trinkets, or even donate a book to the classroom library.
If you would like to send birthday invitations to friends in class, this can only be done if the whole class is being invited or all the students of your child's gender. (i.e. inviting all the girls) Otherwise, we ask that birthday invitations be distributed outside of school. Teachers are generally willing to help send electronic invites with advanced notice when going to the whole class.
Beginning Oct. 14 - November 5, fifth grade families may refer their child for Gifted and Talented testing via Skyward.
Referrals for students in Kinder-4th grade will open on Dec. 2nd.

Have you checked your Emergency Contacts for your child lately? Please ensure that you have the names and correct phone numbers of anyone authorized to pick up your child from school should an emergency occur. Thank you!
Visitors may join us for lunch with their child if they are signed up in advance HERE. Available October dates are Tuesday, Oct 1 - Monday, Oct. 28. (Oct. 29-Nov. 1 will be on the Book Fair Lunch with a Loved One sign-up.) Please be sure to share our Sign-up link with your family members who wish to come eat with your child. Also, it is critical that anyone coming to lunch with your child, if not accompanying the guardian, is on your child's emergency contact list.
Lunch guests will sign-in through our secure vestibule with a valid ID, stop by the front office to check-in and receive a visitor badge, and then meet their GES star at the entrance to the cafeteria. Families will have the option to sit outside in the picnic table area for lunch or in our cafeteria at an empty table near the windows. Parents are welcome to bring in outside food when having their lunch with their child. We ask that you please be courteous to the rest of the community and limit lunch visits with your child to no more than one per month so that all families have the opportunity to visit. We appreciate your cooperation.
Each family needs only 1 slot reserved. For example, Mom, Dad, and sister may all come eat lunch with Nancy. Only Mom needs to be registered as 1 visitor to reserve 1 picnic table together. When it asks for quantity of visitors, please select just 1. Lunch visitors may only eat with their child or student. You may not invite friends to sit with you when coming for lunch.

We LOVE our volunteers at GES! This year we are encouraging all families who plan to come to campus and interact with students to go ahead and complete the background check. Volunteers must complete this EACH YEAR beginning in August! It can take 1-2 weeks for your background check to clear. If you plan to be a guest reader, volunteer at a class party, chaperone a field trip, volunteer with PTA, open car doors with our Dad's Club, etc. you will need a completed Background Check! kjkhkuh
The following link takes you to the online Volunteer Handbook and background check: https://www.gcisd.net/o/gcisd/page/volunteer-background-check
In order to volunteer at GES, or around GCISD, all volunteers must:
read the Volunteer Handbook (this replaces the previous face to face volunteer trainings held on campus)
watch the appropriate video included in the handbook
electronically sign the verification Google form for each campus you plan to volunteer
complete the volunteer background check. A link is included in the handbook.
When you are ready to volunteer at GES, feel free to call the front office at 817-251-5735 to verify that both of the required steps have been recorded as completed. We appreciate your support as you complete these steps and volunteer to work with our GES students.
If you are on Facebook, we would love for you to follow our Grapevine Elementary Facebook page if you're not already. We post activities and campus life in addition to helpful reminders. We would love for you to follow our story!
