GES Families,
Thank you for your continued participation in our One School One Book reading program. We have had so much positive feedback from students and families enjoying the book together. This week we are enjoying a fun Spirit Week themed to our reading. We loved seeing all the camo on Monday. Tuesday's theme is community. Let's write positive notes to each other and build our campus community through kindness just like Roz. Wednesday is "Wild Wednesday" and students may wear animal print or an animal costume. Thursday we will celebrate feeling at home at GES with our pajamas!
To end our Spirit Week, we will have a Glow Day followed by Friday night's Glow Dance! This is a fundraiser for our 5th grade Graduation and Celebration that our PTA helps sponsor each year. Tickets are $5 each and may be purchased at the door if you didn't purchase in advance. There will be dancing in the gym, concessions and glow items for sale in the cafeteria, and a movie in the music room.
Last but not least, there is still plenty of time to enter our Roz and Brightbill Family Contest! This is a completely optional opportunity for those interested in participating. There will be up to 10 prizes awarded! Click the LINK to read more! All entries are due by Feb. 7th when we finish the book.
If you are new to GES or want to share the resources with other family members who may be supporting your child, you can find our digital resources here:
All my best,
Mrs. Hale
We have rescheduled our Internet Safety Round Table with Officer Weber to this Wednesday, January 29 from 6-7pm in the Learning Commons.
Save the dates and join us for the GES Spring Book Fair! We're excited to offer shopping times for students individually, as well as Lunch with a Loved One and after-school shopping for families. We'll even be open Wednesday night before the PTA Family Art Night! More information coming soon! Click here to view the schedule!
We made a few adjustments to the spring Principal Book Club Dates and grade levels based on participation in the fall. Our PreK and Kinder session will now be the end of February and our April session will be open to 1st-3rd graders for robotics.
All sessions will be from 3:00-3:45 in the GES Learning Commons. A sign-up will be sent a few weeks prior to the event so we know how many families to prepare for.
Our February lunch sign-up is now available beginning Feb. 2nd. As a reminder, we kindly ask that each family reserve only 1 spot per month so that all families have the opportunity to come and eat with their child. We have 6 spots per grade level per day for families. Now that the weather is getting cooler, families may choose to enjoy sitting on the patio at our picnic tables with their child for lunch.
Please remember to sign-up HERE and bring your valid ID to sign-in to the kiosks when you arrive. If you want to sit outside on the patio, please get a badge from the front office that will let you back into the building after lunch.
Feb. 11-13 will be Lunch with a Loved One days to shop the book fair. There will be a separate sign-up for these days coming soon!
This year our instructional calendar includes the Friday before Spring Break as a Bad Weather make-up day, so Open House will be Tuesday, March 11 from 6-7pm. This will be a come and go event as it has been in the past for students to share the amazing work they have been doing in class and progress towards their goals. We hope you will plan to join us!
Our 3rd-5th grade students will participate in Interim Testing on the following dates:
January 28th- Grade 5 Science
This may impact the daily schedule of students as we provide a larger block on instructional time in the mornings for students to take their online assessments. We ask that you ensure students have a good night of rest and healthy breakfast so they can perform at their best for these assessments.
These tests are designed by the State of Texas in preparation for the STAAR tests later in the spring. Teachers receive valuable data that help them adjust instruction and ensure students have mastered the necessary TEKs. It also provides data for both students and families that may predict how students will perform on those upcoming assessments.
This is a live Google Calendar that we will keep updated throughout the year with campus activities. Click the calendar to open it up so you can switch to week or month view and look at future dates. Please check back frequently for new additions.

Did you know that GES and GCISD always text from the 989-00 number? You can save this number and rename it in your phone so it draws your attention. In my phone I have it named "GCISD Texts."
Also, if you accidentally unsubscribed from these texts. You can text "START" to 989-00 and they should begin again.
The tuition-based pre-K lottery for the 2024-2025 school year opens January 13, 2025. Give your child the chance to shine with GCISD's exceptional curriculum and dedicated faculty!
Visitors may join us for lunch with their child if they are signed up in advance HERE. Available Dec 2-19. Please be sure to share our Sign-up link with your family members who wish to come eat with your child. Also, it is critical that anyone coming to lunch with your child, if not accompanying the guardian, is on your child's emergency contact list.
Lunch guests will sign-in through our secure vestibule with a valid ID, stop by the front office to check-in and receive a visitor badge, and then meet their GES star at the entrance to the cafeteria. Families will have the option to sit outside in the picnic table area for lunch or in our cafeteria at an empty table near the windows. Parents are welcome to bring in outside food when having their lunch with their child. We ask that you please be courteous to the rest of the community and limit lunch visits with your child to no more than one per month so that all families have the opportunity to visit. We appreciate your cooperation.
Each family needs only 1 slot reserved. For example, Mom, Dad, and sister may all come eat lunch with Nancy. Only Mom needs to be registered as 1 visitor to reserve 1 picnic table together. When it asks for quantity of visitors, please select just 1. Lunch visitors may only eat with their child or student. You may not invite friends to sit with you when coming for lunch.

We LOVE our volunteers at GES! This year we are encouraging all families who plan to come to campus and interact with students to go ahead and complete the background check. Volunteers must complete this EACH YEAR beginning in August! It can take 1-2 weeks for your background check to clear. If you plan to be a guest reader, volunteer at a class party, chaperone a field trip, volunteer with PTA, open car doors with our Dad's Club, etc. you will need a completed Background Check! kjkhkuh
The following link takes you to the online Volunteer Handbook and background check: https://www.gcisd.net/o/gcisd/page/volunteer-background-check
In order to volunteer at GES, or around GCISD, all volunteers must:
read the Volunteer Handbook (this replaces the previous face to face volunteer trainings held on campus)
watch the appropriate video included in the handbook
electronically sign the verification Google form for each campus you plan to volunteer
complete the volunteer background check. A link is included in the handbook.
When you are ready to volunteer at GES, feel free to call the front office at 817-251-5735 to verify that both of the required steps have been recorded as completed. We appreciate your support as you complete these steps and volunteer to work with our GES students.
If you are on Facebook, we would love for you to follow our Grapevine Elementary Facebook page if you're not already. We post activities and campus life in addition to helpful reminders. We would love for you to follow our story!
