TABLE OF CONTENTS
Dear O.C. Taylor Families,
We had great week highlighted by our incredible Veterans Day Assembly!
A huge thank you to Beth Vencill, our amazing 3rd and 4th grade teachers and students, our dedicated PTA, the talented parents who helped with decorations, and—most importantly—the veterans who have selflessly served our country. This is always a special event at OCT thanks to your contributions.
I want to give a special note of gratitude to Bryan Swink for his service but also for sharing his time in both assemblies and for his inspiring words with us. It was a true privilege to be able to hear from you!
Thank you to everyone else who helped make this celebration a meaningful tribute to the heroes who have sacrificed so much for our freedom!
We have just 5 more days until we are on Thanksgiving Break and we are looking forward to having a strong week going into the break!
Best,
Principal Schilleci
PRE-K AND KINDERGARTEN THANKSGIVING FEASTS, 11/21: Please make sure to check in and get a badge at the Kiosks in the front vestibule before heading back to your tiger's classroom. We will not do FAST Passes due to it just being two grade levels. You are welcome to stop by earlier in the week to get your badge if you would like so you do not have to wait in the lines on Thursday. Please just let Gene and Paola know why you are there!!
GCISD Voters Approve VATRE; Generate $6 Million in Revenue for District: According to unofficial results from Tarrant County, Grapevine-Colleyville ISD voters have approved the school district’s Voter-Approved Tax Ratification Election, listed as Proposition A on the ballot, with 57.9% of voters in favor and 42.1% against. Thanks to our community’s support, the VATRE will provide approximately $6 million in much-needed funding for school district operations. View this message from Superintendent Dr. Brad Schnautz.

GCISD Holiday Greeting Card Art Contest: All elementary, middle, and high school students are invited to submit original artwork for the cover of GCISD’s official holiday greeting card. This year’s theme is "Show Others Kindness." Three student designs—one each from the elementary, middle, and high school levels—will be selected and sent out on behalf of the GCISD Board of Trustees and Superintendent Dr. Brad Schnautz. Cards are sent to community leaders, area businesses, organizations, and other school districts.
Each student will submit their artwork to their campus art teacher or other designee.
Each school will select campus-based winners whose art will then be submitted to the district level for final selection.
Each high school will choose up to 10 finalists; each middle school will choose up to 5 finalists; and each elementary will choose up to 3 finalists. Final designs for the cover will be selected by the Superintendent and his designees based on originality, the theme, use of the elements of art, and overall design.
The three students whose works are selected for the GCISD Holiday Greeting Card will receive $25 and recognition at the December meeting of the Board of Trustees. The selected artwork and the artists’ names will be featured on the district’s website and used in district publicity.

I am truly thankful to be a part of the OCT community. It is a special place, and we are fortunate to have an amazing staff and supportive parent community. Our little tigers are blessed to have such great guidance as they continue their educational journey.
Thank you for your ongoing support and partnership. I wish you all a fantastic week ahead filled with quality time spent with loved ones!
It's a great day to be a tiger!

Hope you all are having a nice, long weekend! For the month of November we will be discussing and learning about gratitude. We will define gratitude as, choosing to appreciate the people and things in our lives.
Conversation starters: Can you share or show me what gratitude means? When someone shows you gratitude, how does it make you feel? Why?
Gratitude is a skill that many of us continue to practice long into adulthood. The more we discuss and model this concept for our kids, the more natural it will become.
Character trait: Gratitude
Emotion: Happiness
Breathing technique: Box Breathing

OCT Tiger Families- What do you do?
Thank you for taking the time to invest in our Tigers. In GCISD, one of our goals is to prepare students for lifelong learning. We will be hosting a career day in the spring, but this is another way you can help encourage and inspire our students. Each week on the Tiger Time News we will be highlighting one career, trade, or profession. Being that we only have a limited number of weeks in the year, the remaining videos will be used to supplement during the large career day in the spring.
Who: Tiger parents/guardians
What: Create a 2-3 minute video: introduction, job title, brief description of job, and another fun fact (training required, your favorite part about the job, live footage of the job/jobsite, etc.). Upload the video at the end of tis Google form. All videos will be reviewed by OCT Administration.
When: Videos will be shown in the order they are received. Any additional videos will be used campuswide on career day.
Where: Tiger Time News- our morning announcements
Why: We want to promote college and career readiness for even our youngest Tigers!
What do you do? (click here to fill out the Google Form)

THANK YOU TIGER FAMILIES: To those of you who sent in baby wipes...thank you for your generous donations. The clinic is now stocked and I feel the LOVE! :)
POP TABS DONATIONS: We are STILL collecting pop tops! This is an easy way we can help support the families at Ronald McDonald House. Bring in all kinds of pop tops and tabs! There is be a labeled bucket in clinic for donations. :)
LION'S CLUB RECYCLE FOR SIGHT PROGRAM: This is another way we can be servant leaders. Donate any old eyeglasses/lenses/cases! There are collection boxes in the front vestibule and in the front office. Most of the recycled glasses are sorted and distributed to people in need in developing countries where they will have the greatest impact.
Repeated information:
FAILED VISION AND HEARING SCREENINGS: I will be sorting through screening results and re-screening any students who failed their vision and/or hearing. If they fail twice, I will send home referral letters. My goal is to be finished by Christmas break, so parents are able to make necessary appointments.
WHEN TO STAY HOME: Students must stay home from school if any of the following are present:
● fever of 100 degrees or higher in the past 24 hours
● vomiting and/or diarrhea in the past 24 hours
● itchy, red eyes with discharge
● unknown rash
● jaundice
● ringworm of the scalp (until treatment has begun)
GCISD has a 24-hour policy related to stomach illness or fever. Students may not return to school until free of fever, vomiting, and/or diarrhea for a minimum of 24 hours without the aid of any medication. If your student is sent home from school with fever, vomiting, or diarrhea, you must still abide by the 24-hour policy, and keep your child home for a minimum of 24 hours after symptoms have subsided without the aid of medication.

We had a fun week in the Library! Library BINGO and Makerspace and lots more stickers on our Mystery Poster made the week fly by!
This week, Kinder through 4th grade friends will get a Library Movie Day - we're watching book trailers! I'll be encouraging everyone to make their own trailers or book reviews so that I can post them on the Morning Show.
The Mystery Sticker Poster Fall Reading Challenge is going great! The rules have slightly changed. For EVERY book a student reads, they will note it on a log, show it to me and redeem for a sticker to place on the mosaic mystery poster. Book Logs have distributed to all classes and extra logs are available in the library. It will take 3,996 stickers to complete the mystery picture - so I hope to see many students coming back many times with their logs!
This year Literati will keep the online fair open all school year long. Until May 22nd, any purchases through our school's online fair link will credit our school 10% of all sales.
You can find out more about the library policies (including how many books each grade can checkout) on the school webpage.
As always, if you have any questions, concerns, would like to volunteer or donate books and supplies please feel free to contact me! I do accept gently used books so if you are cleaning out your child's room and find there are stories that could live in the OCT Library, send them my way 🤩 The most requested picture book titles are video game characters, mermaids, Disney Princesses, superheroes and popular tv characters (like Paw Patrol, Bluey, Peppa Pig, etc), but I'll be happy to accept whatever you'd like to give!

GCISD NUTRITION SERVICES: Click here to see the school menus.
FREE AND REDUCED LUNCH APPLICATIONS: Starting on July 10, 2024, free and reduced-price meal applications were made available to fill out for the 2024-2025 school year. Families are encouraged to complete the Application for Free and Reduced-Price School Meals available online at www.schoollunchapp.com. A paper copy may be downloaded from the website or requested at any campus or Nutrition Services office.
The application will determine a child’s eligibility for free and reduced-price meals and may assist in the determination of eligibility for other state or federal benefits. Only one application needs to be completed per household. Schools will notify the household of the child’s eligibility. The Texas Department of Agriculture (TDA) administers school nutrition programs in Texas and offers an eligibility calculator at www.SquareMeals.org/ProgramEligibility.
Decisions regarding payment for school meals are made at the national-government level, not by the school nutrition team or TDA. The dedicated staff in Nutrition Services is looking forward to serving healthy, balanced meals to students in the new school year. If you have any questions, please call 817-251-5617 or email child.nutrition@gcisd.net.
Texas legislation has approved a 2024-25 biennium budget, which includes $3.3 million per year to cover the cost of school breakfasts for students eligible for reduced price meals. Students that are approved for reduced-priced meals may eat breakfast at no cost this school year. Lunch price is $0.40.
PROCEDURE FOR FAMILIES WITH UNPAID MEAL CHARGES: Parents/Guardians shall monitor their student’s school meal account to ensure that they always have a positive balance. In the event that a student does not have a positive balance, the student may charge up to 6 meals to their account. Only reimbursable meals may be charged. A la carte items may not be charged. Communication about a negative meal balance will be sent to parents/guardians via email. Students who have exceeded the 6 charged meal limit, will be offered an alternative meal that will be charged to the student’s account.
