ELAR
**We will be having a grade level STEM project before Thanksgiving. Please send in any empty toilet paper rolls you have! Thank you.
This week we will wrap up Module 4, "The Wild West." Students will take a Module Assessment. They have been working on a brochure project in class. This will be due on Wednesday, November 13.
In Grammar, we will discuss subject and object pronouns.
Please remember to set a time to read each night. After reading, ask your student to give you a 10 word summary of what they read.
Social Studies
This week in Social Studies we will finish learning about the American Revolution. We will also test in Social Studies this week.
Math
The students are working on Unit 5 which covers fractional operations and rational numbers. The students will learn how to add/subtract fractions with uncommon denominators, multiply unit fractions by a whole number and vice versa. They will also learn how to divide unit fractions by a whole number and vice versa.
Homework
For Friday, Friday, November 15, the students need to finish two "my path" lessons and four fluency lessons in i-Ready. The students know how to check to see how many lessons they have finished for each week under "my progress" tab. The students have time during each week in class and Tiger Time to work on some of their homework. If they finish at school, it is your choice if you would like to have your child do more i-Ready lessons at home.
Science
I have opened up our 'Science Homework' tab in Canvas. The kids can now see where they will grab 5 hard vocab words from. They will then use a piece of paper to rewrite the definitions in their own words.
This week in Science, we will be finishing up Energy Flow and Ecosystem Interactions. Students will...
an ecosystem consists of all the organisms living in a particular place as well as the nonliving parts of the environment.
biotic refers to the living or once-living parts of an ecosystem. Abiotic refers to the parts of an ecosystem that are nonliving and have never been living.
a healthy ecosystem contains suitable types and amounts of biotic and abiotic factors needed to support the organisms that live there.
Questions to Ask Your Child?
Ask your child to show you how to divide by a two digit divisor.
Ask your child how to multiply a 3 digit number times a 2 digit number.

Canvas Observer
Some of you were wondering how you can become a "Parent Observer" in Canvas, so we wanted to provide that information. Please CLICK HERE to read an article on the process. This will provide you with step by step instructions and screenshots. NOTE: You will need to do it when your child is available to login to their Canvas account for a code. If you have any issues, you can click on the "Submit a Request" at the end of the article.
Curriculum Night Information
If you were unable to attend Curriculum Night Thursday evening, August 22, here is the link to the presentation. If you have any questions, please reach out to that teacher. Thank you all!
We are continuing to use the dismissal procedure called SafeID. This system is more streamlined and much safer for dismissal times. If your child's form of transportation home changes, PLEASE let the front office know as quickly as possible and before 2:30.
If a question or concern arises, please contact one of the 5th-grade teachers as your first point of contact. We are here to help answer questions, alleviate concerns, and support you and your child.
