December 2nd - 6th
ELAR
I can't believe Thanksgiving and Christmas are right around the corner. 2024 is flying by!
This week in ELAR, we will be reading an informational text called Potatoes on Rooftops: Farming in the City. While reading this text we will work on the author's purpose, the author's craft, and facts/opinions.
In Grammar, we will work on irregular verb tenses. Our morphology suffix this week is -ive, which means having the nature of. (active, alternative, descriptive)
Please remember to set a time to read each night. After reading, ask your student what the story's problem is and how the characters resolved the conflict.
Social Studies
This week in Social Studies we will learn about the people who guided the building of the government after gaining independence.
Math
The students are beginning Unit 6 which is called Operations and Algebraic Reasoning. This unit covers order of operations and algebraic word problems.
Homework
The students will NOT be able to do homework in i-Ready this week due to the MOY (Middle of Year) Diagnostic test. We will take our MOY in i-Ready starting Monday, December 9. Therefore, the students do NOT have any homework the next three weeks. We will start homework back up after Winter Break! Please feel free to review concepts at home or facts.
Science
**Science test NEXT week
I have opened up our 'Science Homework' tab in Canvas. The kids can now see where they will grab 5 hard vocab words from. They will then use a piece of paper to rewrite the definitions in their own words.
This week in Science, we will be continuing Impacts of Conservation. Students will...
explain that using natural resources has impacts on the environment and solutions such as conservation, recycling, and proper disposal reduce those impacts.
design and explain a solution that reduces environmental impacts from using natural resources.
