ELAR
We will continue working on Module 7 and read a biography about Rita Moreno. Our reading skills will focus on visualization and literary elements.
In grammar/writing, we will discuss adverbs and continue working on our ECR.
In Social Studies we will read and discuss The Industrial Revolution.
Math
We are working on Unit 7 Data Analysis. This unit explores the understanding of how data representations display the counts (frequencies) or measures of data values in an organized, visual format so that the data can be interpreted efficiently. Representing data and solving problems involving data in frequency tables, dot plots, stem-and-leaf plots, and scatterplots leads to summarizing numeric and categorical data with numerical and/or graphical summaries.
Homework
The students will be expected to finish 45 minutes in "my path" i-Ready and then do 4 fluency checks in i-Ready each week. The students have a spiral review and UPS problem each week. They are given time during Tiger Time, however, they may need time to finish these items at home.
Science
This week in Science, we will be continuing Earth's Processes and Cycles. Students will...
the water cycle is the way water moves around Earth in different forms. The sun provides energy that warms water, causing some water to evaporate into the atmosphere. Water falls back to Earth as precipitation.
sedimentary rocks are a type of rock that forms when many layers of sediment build up in one place and harden over a long period of time. Fossil fuels are substances formed from the remains of ancient organisms.
Optional Homework
I have opened up our 'Science Homework' tab in Canvas. The kids can now see where they will grab 5 hard vocab words from. They will then use a piece of paper OR use index cards to rewrite the definitions in their own words.
Questions to Ask Your Child?
Ask your child to show you how to divide by a two digit divisor.

Ask your child to show you how to multiply fractions.
Ask your child how to divide a unit fraction by a whole number and a whole number by a unit fraction.
Ask your child what PEMDAS stands for.
Ask your child how to create a frequency table, dot plot, and stem and leaf plot.
Ask them why we collect data and create graphs to visually represent it.
INTERIM TESTING
The students will be taking their interim test for ELAR on January 23, Science on January 28, and Math Januay 29.. We ask that you have your child charge their chromebook each night before an Interim Test. Please have them get plenty of sleep, eat a healthy breakfast, bring chromebook, headphones, and charger to school. We know working together the students will do very well. We are excited to see their awesome work. Lunch on these days will be at 12:45-1:15. It will be a closed campus, so we cannot have the students eat lunch with family or friends. You may drop off a lunch if necessary. Please refrain if possible from scheduling any appointments on these days. Thank you for all you do. If you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to your homeroom teacher.
From Mrs. Priesand:
Dear Parents,
We are excited to support our students during testing days (Interim and STAAR) with snacks provided by the PTA. Each testing day, your child will receive:
A mint
A cheese stick
A cracker snack (such as Skinny Pop, Goldfish, or pretzels)
If your child has a confirmed food allergy, your child’s teacher will coordinate with you to ensure an appropriate snack is provided from home.
After testing, students may enjoy any additional snacks they bring from home. We kindly remind you to encourage your child to have a healthy breakfast and get a good night’s sleep to set them up for success.
Thank you for your continued support!
