ELAR
It's that time of year! We will begin reviewing for our upcoming ELAR STAAR test on April 9th. This week we will review making inferences, figurative language, and vocabulary/context clues!
In Social Studies we will learn about the United States in the 20th century.
Math
The students are working on Unit 9 Geometry and Measurement. This will cover perimeter, area, volume, types of quadrilaterals, types of triangles (sides and angles), and converting measurement.
Homework
The students will be expected to finish 45 minutes in "my path" i-Ready and then do 4 fluency checks in i-Ready each week. The students will also have a Spiral Review Week 29 to do. The students are working on their Interim Plan at school and may need to do some for homework. The students have a plan that shows which TEKS they need to practice. They will do a lesson/assignment for the TEK they missed on the interim in Go Math (App in Classlink). Then after they finish that lesson(s)/assignment(s), the students will work on a quiz in STEMscopes. The students need to pass with at least a 70%. If they score lower than 70%, then the teacher will meet with them to do a mini lesson and do another assignment. The students should try to finish two sections or TEKS in one week.
Together, we can help your children reach their full potential!! They are given time during class and Tiger Time, however, they will need time to finish these items at home.
Science
This week in Science, we will be continuing Electricity and Light. Students will...
energy is everywhere and can be observed in cycles, patterns, or systems.
energy transformation refers to the change from one form of energy to another, such as the conversion of electrical energy to light energy.
Optional Homework
I have opened up our 'Science Homework' tab in Canvas. The kids can now see where they will grab 5 hard vocab words from. They will then use a piece of paper OR use index cards to rewrite the definitions in their own words.

Canvas Observer
Some of you were wondering how you can become a "Parent Observer" in Canvas, so we wanted to provide that information. Please CLICK HERE to read an article on the process. This will provide you with step by step instructions and screenshots. NOTE: You will need to do it when your child is available to login to their Canvas account for a code. If you have any issues, you can click on the "Submit a Request" at the end of the article.
Curriculum Night Information
If you were unable to attend Curriculum Night Thursday evening, August 22, here is the link to the presentation. If you have any questions, please reach out to that teacher. Thank you all!
We are continuing to use the dismissal procedure called SafeID. This system is more streamlined and much safer for dismissal times. If your child's form of transportation home changes, PLEASE let the front office know as quickly as possible and before 2:30.
If a question or concern arises, please contact one of the 5th-grade teachers as your first point of contact. We are here to help answer questions, alleviate concerns, and support you and your child.
