  September 23rd, 2024 Week #7

"My Relatives"

During week 7 we will discuss how families are people who love and take care of each other.  Students will learn that "relatives" are extended family members.

Does your family have an unique or special name for your Pre-K child?  If so, feel free to share it with us!  We will explore the idea of family uniqueness!  What makes your family special?

      "Johnny      Appleseed"

This week we will read the adventures of Johnny Appleseed.  Students will learn how kindness is to help others.  We will also have bushels of fun as we learn more about apples!

Classroom Request

                                               Your students love sidewalk chalk!

We are using sidewalk chalk outside almost everyday and our classroom supplies have dwindled.  Would you consider donating sidewalk chalk to our PreK classrooms?!   Thank you for your consideration!

Looking forward to...

Students will begin to match uppercase and lowercase letters.   We will continue our introduction of letters as we look at letters Ee, Rr and Ss.  Students will identify parts of a sentence along with specific letter sounds.

Math

Week 7 invites your child to practice subitizing small quantities of items.

Students will collect data and compare the results.

Social/

Emotional

Pre-K students will focus on the following skills during their Social/Emotional lessons:

Birthday Treats

Please click on this link to read the policy regarding birthday treats for the 2024-2025 school year.  Thank you!

    Sort by     Attributes

Provide your child with bead or magnetic letters to sort.  Encourage them to identify various attributes of each letter.  Sort letters by their straight lines or curves.

Extension: Encourage your child to sort by color.  Challenge your child to count how many items they collected in different categories.

  Pasta on   Straws

Your child will build their fine motor skills by sliding pasta noodles onto straws.

Extension: Using different colored pastas, have your child build a pattern as they slide the pasta onto the straw.

Beads on Pipe Cleaners

To build hand and finger strength, provide your child with colorful beads that they can slide onto pipe cleaners. In this activity children are encouraged to match colors of beads with pipe cleaners.

Please remember ...

Your child needs the following items sent in their backpack, every day:

*a change of clothes in a ziploc bag

*a water bottle that they can manage without spilling

* label water bottle, backpack and lunchbox

*2 healthy snack items (no items that require utensils, please)

*Please send one water/drink for lunch to stay in the lunchbox and another water bottle for snack

Dismissal Reminder:

If you find your child must go home a different way than planned, please notify the office by a phone call by at least 2:00 p.m. Teachers and our front office staff do not always have access to email or are busy teaching or helping others. A phone call is required. Sometimes we have only one person in the front office, so we want to provide ample time to be able to meet your needs.
