Poppy has been a highly committed student to the programme. Throughout the 3 stages she developed her photography to a more individual and conceptual level. Pushing herself outside her comfort zone.
For her FMP, Poppy's theme was inspired by the sad death of Sarah Everard, exploring the cultural pressures on women, depicting strengths and vulnerabilities of being female. Within that, she created excellent strong portraits, with highly skilled studio lighting, challenging the expected norm.

Luke has had a very successful year and achieved some outstanding results in his project work. As well as achieving great success for himself, Luke has always been willing to share his considerable film skills with other members of the course and provided his services to the college’s marketing team, shooting drone photography of the building for a promotional video.

Reina has sadly been unable to join the course and study face to face in the UK. Studying remotely in Taiwan has been a challenge, both with the time difference, intermittent Internet and studying in a second language.
It has been a pleasure to see Reina's creative abilities and confidence grow during the course. Despite setbacks, disappointments and challenges, I am filled with respect for her and the way she has demonstrated resourcefulness and determination to continue and succeed.

Finlay produced a video to the highest standards using considerable skills in cinematography and editing. The film works very successfully to amplify the feeling conveyed by the song and would be distinctive at a higher level.
He has demonstrated professionalism and reliability in his attendance, his work ethic and his willingness to help and share with others.

Indigo has displayed such an outstanding dedication to the course and her artistic practice this year.

Having worked remotely in China between September and December, then in lockdown in the UK (having arrived December 19th) and then moving to working face to face in college they have both worked exceptionally hard producing an extensive and excellent body of work.
Their achievement is all the more amazing in that they have both learnt to live independently away from home for the first time with the added challenges of a different culture and operating using a second language too.

Lucy produced a really personal, inventive and developed body of work that took a normally uneventful situation (walking to work), in adverse circumstances (Covid and lockdown), with limited resources (paper & found objects) and made it beautiful.
Through thoughtful, detailed and sensitive observation and making, the work opens our eyes to the wealth of potential and inspiration that exists around us in the 'everyday'.

Chay is an enthusiastic, extremely highly motivated and industrious student. His work, in all aspects of the course, has been pursued with determination, following an intelligent process of learning through experiment, making links with previous project experiences and a thorough exploration of unknown fields of activity.
His investigations into the spaces between urban and rural landscapes demonstrate light, restrained and highly considered mark making.
He has been a great contributor to the group and a joy to teach.

Guy has been 100% committed to the course throughout the year, again one of the first persons to arrive and the last person to leave on lesson days. A quiet yet very determined student throughout the course, he developed his photographic skills and conceptual qualities in his photography.
Guy pushed the experimental aspects for his FMP theme, including creating 'levitation' style images in the studio as well as on location to challenge the notion of 'documentary/ realism' of photography. His strong individual portfolio has given him access to his desired University course.

Throughout the year Lois has been 100% committed to the course. The first person to arrive and the last person to leave on lesson days. She produces an exceptional amount of work, to explore the photographic subject and to push her practical skills.
For her FMP, Lois developed a sensitively conducted family based project on 'altering memories', photographing and interviewing grandparents, other family members and considering her own memory. She took risks working on film and diverse formats as well as colour hand printing. The outcomes were individual, meaningful depictions of characters and atmospheric interior shots, that created a strong personal visual narrative of the theme.

Throughout her time at the college and 2 year journey, Sommer has been 100% committed to the course. She produces an exceptional amount of work, to explore the photographic subject and to push her practical skills.
For her FMP, Sommer focused on 'family connections', photographing siblings and other family members depicting these through documentary and environmental portraiture style photography.
Sommer's strength lies within working with the film, diverse formats as well excelling in her darkroom experimental monochrome hand printing. The outcomes were individual, meaningful depictions of characters, reportage style shoots, together creating a strong visual narrative of the theme.

Joe really excelled during FMP! Showing his true potential, he produced a project that focussed on mental health and the traumas of physical abuse. He undertook this incredibly challenging theme with originality, integrity and empathy. Joe produced a stunning portfolio, which showcased his confident practical skills set and theoretical understanding. We are so proud of him!

James' final project 'Paperweight, a surreal film about a writer and his isolation, was a highly creative response to the project brief and was made to professional standards.
Equally noteworthy was James’ wide-ranging, diverse and purposeful research to support the development of the film, perhaps the best we have ever seen on the course!

Talented hardworking student, Amalin has shown total dedication and commitment and produced exceptional work for her FMP. She is a highly self motivated and contentious student, always going the extra mile. Amalin produced a very mature, ambitious and intelligent project which explored a less conventional approach, honoring women and their bodies through a spiritual and sensory experience.

Erin has constantly been working to a very high level of commitment and standard. She has learnt all her animation skills this year and produced a very strong film for her FMP.

Jemima has given 100% to her studies and has produced a vast amount of work in the process. The commitment she has given to each stage of her studies has been exemplary. The work she produces is based on a broad range of concepts which are always meticulously researched and documented.
Jemima has used the Foundation year to broaden her approach, using a range of methods and techniques to make experimental outcomes. She has produced a portfolio of work which demonstrates resourcefulness and invention when the access to college facilities and workshops have been limited. Her Final Major Project is a particularly pertinent study which considers the mental health of school students and a concept which would certify mental health first aiders in the school environment.
Jemima was a Student Rep for Graphic Comms, a voice of reason and a reliable team player, always ready with a question which would help clarify for the group in studio and online sessions. Jemima has many qualities but above all she has empathy, which is essential for any successful designer.

Jemma has gone above and beyond throughout her studies on the L2 course. With each project that we explored Jemma took the projects to another level of skill with bringing in her self-taught passion of digital design where she has demonstrated a high level of skill and interest. Jemma met all deadlines even with additional work that she personally set herself to stretch and challenge herself further within her studies of art and design.
Jemma is an exemplary student and I wish her the very best with her future studies at the college where I am certain she will continue to thrive and grow upon her already exceptional skill set.

Amber chose to revisit the A.I.D.S pandemic in the light of COVID-19. Looking at the similarities of the two viruses. She was able to interview a H.I.V positive patient and another person whose mother passed on the virus to them as a baby.
In the light of the recent television series 'It's A Sin', Amber has been able to bring the subject of A.I.D.S as something that still needs to be not forgotten, particularly amongst the younger generation. Amber worked with the Terence Higgins Trust, and they have asked that Amber shares images of her work with them.
For her final piece she created something that was evocative of the A.I.D.S memorial quilt.

Sarah’s work is of a genuinely university or professional level. This is an exceptional achievement considering the course she is on is a level 3 extended course - most commonly used to access university. She has produced an impressive Google site with a marketing slant that fully shows off her concept art and 3D models (both grey models and full colour ones). She is a talented artist who is highly likely to go on and work in the extremely competitive games industry.

Emma has produced a well crafted and accomplished body of work for her FMP. Emma is mature in her approach to convey subtle characteristics of her designs. On top of being a skilled Emma has an excellent work ethic and attendance.

Imogen is an exceptionally talented student, who produced and presented a film on natural dyeing methods.

Tommy led the year 1 student involved in the week long 'Into Game Workshop' where students needed to design/ illustrate a new game mechanic for a non-linear game. He has consistently produced great outcomes through Stage 1, 2 and 3 with increasingly mature supporting contextual research.

Florence is a gifted photographer and image maker and, whilst working extremely hard pursuing her personal development throughout the Part time Foundation course, she has also never hesitated to support her fellow students. Throughout this year, Ollie, has shown excellent commitment to the course, despite some technical issues impacting his studies during 'lockdown'.
He also has been a very supportive member of his cohort in particular to some students who had traumatic events happening during this year.

In studio or online sessions Ryan's happy and friendly nature was a real asset. Always there with a suggestion or a question. Never shy to make a comment. Always encouraging and inclusive with other students. A great team member who put others at ease and forged discussion. He made a great Student Rep for Graphic Comms, attending meetings with the concerns of his peers at heart.
In his studies, something 'clicked' for Ryan in Stage 2, his understanding of the breadth of possibilities offered by the Graphic Communication Design specialism saw his creativity and design ideas take off. Throughout the year his attendance and commitment were exemplary, he was always on time for tutorials and ready for work. His enthusiasm and easy nature were infectious in the studio, it's always good to have a student like him creating a happy buzz.

Zaya has been a constant source of positivity, energy and enthusiasm throughout the course despite studying remotely throughout the year in Taiwan due to covid restrictions.
Overcoming the disappointment of not being able to study face to face, she has always been eager to share her extensive and developing knowledge of her subject area and her thoughts and ideas with her peers.
Actively contributing to the group sessions she has inspired her peers to engage in discussions despite the challenges of study in a second language and has been both generous in her feedback and contributions to peer group critiques.

Ruben was a positive force throughout, always there, responding and feeding back on people's work in the peer reviews and group sessions online.

Joe Led his group in the 'National Skills Challenge' and co-lead the 'Into Game Work' experience. He delivered his group's pitch with confidence and humour, much to the delight of his peers. Joe is also quick to contribute to group discussions and Google Meets either explaining technical terms or demonstrating a software tool or process. Additionally, he has been encouraging and supportive towards other students when they have shared their work.

Throughout his time at the college and 2 year journey, Louis has faced each challenge head on, it has been wonderful to see him mature over the time and his creative photographic ability excel even further. In the first term, his portraits for BLM- were chosen as part of the actual exhibition during the Brighton Photo Festival.
He created an outstanding FMP project, relating to 'mental health- the impact of Covid 19', told through music artists. He made contact with music artists through social media, conducting interviews and creating insightful portraits. Allowing him to enrich this creative journey with first hand insight and inspiration.

Hannah has had to work remotely for much of the academic year and has continually strived to improve her technical and artistic skills. She has also begun to learn how to build UI interfaces in Unity and code with C sharp. This is especially impressive given that Hannah tended to focus on less technical tasks in the first year.

Aziliz has been online learning from the very start of the academic year as she is currently living in France. Due to the lockdowns in France and the UK it has meant Aziliz has not been able to attend in person lessons. She has however, risen to the challenge and attended all online tuition, stayed in continued contact with tutors and produced and outstanding body of work to prepare her for the Level 2 in September.
Aziliz is a wonderful exemplary student that has shown that through challenging times you can still achieve and do your utter best. I wish her the very best with her future studies at the college where I am certain she will continue to thrive and will hopefully be able to attend in person tutoring once again.

Olivia has produced an outstanding body of work for her Final Major Project.
Throughout the year, Olivia has overcome many struggles with studying from home. She has stuck with it and continued to make work when creative motivation was low.
Olivia's particular breakthrough was with a 3D typography project and she has continued her interest in experimenting with letterforms into a very successful road safety campaign. The strength she demonstrated and the determination she found saw her confidence begin to increase and now, I would say she is a great student with a bright future ahead in Graphic Design.

Sonny has done an exceptional job of staying on top of his studies this year despite being unable to attend for extended periods due to health reasons.
He has shown great maturity in keeping tutors informed of his appointments and catching up with work at every stage.

Kizzie Mai has worked so hard this year, overcoming all the challenges the pandemic brought.
