This piece is a part of my FMP, a 2D Metroidvania game concept incorporating the themes of ‘Elegant Engineer and Sinister Scientist’ through the characters and setting. The player takes control of The Brain, a fantastic engineer’s brain ripped from its home by Dr. Brokenbeaker, an evil scientist whose lab the game is set in. This piece shows The Brain after hijacking a mobile suit and fighting off plants enhanced by technology. During my time on the FMP I focused almost entirely on 2D concept art to flesh out the setting, as it’s what my strengths play to.

This is an image of the engineer themed tower defense game that me and my group were working on for the final major project, the idea for the game was to make a basic tower defense game aimed towards younger years through its theme of robots and easy playability. For the games production, we worked on art whilst we also had our own separate jobs, for example, I worked on scripting the game as well and Chayse worked on sound design. The game features basic turret placement and purchasing as well as a round system that procedurally generate enemies.

You'll be able to see my plans and progression throughout the project. Highlighting the individual ideas which took form throughout the development stage of the project. In addition, written work will be present and you will be able to view them individually. For example, Contextual Research and the Reflective Log which provides the influences and inspirations that I took upon to better understand the very concept and idea that I’m portraying for my project and through the individual designs of my character - Hope you like it.

For the FMP, we worked in groups. Our group wanted to create a working tower defense game, so we did. We named it "Under Siege" and we think that the name goes with the theme quite well. The theme we went with was 'Engineer' and have based all of our defenses and enemies around that, being made from scrap and metal. Some defenses and enemies look like they are barely hanging together, this goes well with the story we created for the game.

"You are a science intern, constantly trying to prove yourself to your peers and make leaps in knowledge to aid mankind! But what will you do when you start to discover dark truths, will you push those closest to you away to protect them? Or will you hold them dear in spite of the consequences?" This is a twist on the dating simulator genre, an anti-dating sim!

I worked in a group to create a demo for a visual novel. These sprites were created by myself and Emma. Em devised a system in order to make the art style consistent, they sketched the bases and I lined them; we both coloured. My favourite aspects of the designs are the swirl blush effect, and the highlights in the hair matching each character’s eyes. I am particularly fond of Rin’s sprites as they are extremely expressive and show his personality, this is something that was achieved through my choice of colour palette and Emma’s decisions in regards to stylization. This is one of the enemies for a game prototype our group made for the FMP. We had the goal of producing a basic tower defence prototype for the topic “Elegant Engineers", conveying this theme through robot enemies made from old tech like vintage TVs. My job was to work on some of the animations and concepts, creating some of the enemies, such as this one and a dancing Boombox bot. The ideas for this bot came quite quickly and due to our desired aesthetic being junk-themed, we had a lot of freedom experimenting till we reached the finished product.

For this FMP, I wanted to experiment with creating backgrounds and creative character designs for a visual novel game, which brings the player into a world of science. The player has the choice to push potential love interests away from them to save them from a mythical mutation. Alternatively, the player can get close to them and learn more, allowing me to create different backgrounds for each character based on abundant biomes. The background I created was based on a pine flatwood biome as the character we focused on was called Rin, whose mythical mutation was based on a coral snake. In this FMP project, we created a demo game only based on Rin's story for the final game concept.

When I made this character I wanted to use a character called Smolder from transformers as a template for the body. The body I designed uses a built-in furnace that powers my character and gives him life.

My piece of work is one of the three boss designs I created for my groups final major project, this variant is called the Brute Enforcer, it is a mashup of old world technology from the game universe. The main basis for this mech is a old military tank that has been combined with a highly modified construction mech outfitted with scrap weapons to make it a brutal war machine.

In my FMP for my Contextual Research work I decided to redesign a cover from a game called Warframe, I redesigned the characters to penguins as I thought that would make them look a bit more funny.

I chose to create 3D models that could be used as a reference for concept art for a theoretical RPG following a theme of “Sinister Scientist & Elegant Engineer”. I used the keywords to create abstract tools and weapons. The final outcome was three 3D models, one with various materials applied to it, the other two untextured (greymodel). I used Blender as well as its various modifier tools such as bevelling to create smooth edges and booleans to connect geometry together.
