My FMP aims to help destigmatise acne. I chose this because I noticed that acne positivity is underrepresented in the body positivity community, despite around 80% of teenagers experiencing it at some point. I tried to communicate acne positivity by illustrating a character that was desperate to earn spots.

My "Escape" poster explores topical subjects: mental health, the environment and how the natural world helps improve our wellbeing. The image depicts a woman morphed into a cliff-face, seemingly in despair, 'drowning' in the river, her tears feeding the waterfall. Her back is turned away from the overbearing rock-face, representing the world that is crushing her. The orange represents hope and a brighter horizon. Nestled in her back/cliff-face is the seedpod inspired wellbeing pod/escape I designed for anyone struggling with life/COVID-19. Also providing an education function, raising awareness of the environment, especially endangered species and threatened habitats such as rainforests.

My project is about social withdrawal, exploring a generation of people who seclude themselves in their room, unable to meet the societal stress and pressure put on them. I tried to explore this phenomenon through a short music video-esque animation, using Wakusei Abnormal’s song, Furare Uta.

My FMP focuses on the theme of plastic pollution, more specifically the problems of microplastics and how they have made their way into the food chain. In this mini exhibition I created I present all the pieces of work made over the course of my FMP. All sculptural and hanging art was made with objects I found on the beach as well as recycled materials I had saved. I created seafood sculptures representing the food we eat to get audiences to reflect on the fact that pollution ends up in the food we consume.

My aim for this project was to explore the ideas of mental stability through a surrealist lens, using my experience of dissociation to illustrate the fear and confusion connected with this mental health condition. I used circus as a physical concept to centre my project around, as circus is a grounding technique for me. This poster advertising my fantasy circus reflects that escapism I feel from circus.

My project is a 3 minute animation which explores the atmosphere and feel of an abandoned city. The animation moves through different parts of the city as it gets explored. I wanted to create the eerie stillness of an abandoned city and juxtapose this with moving animated natural parts like rainfall and wind, showing the city being reclaimed by nature. I created an imposing and intimidating feel through numerous imposing concrete buildings which have become deserted and noiseless, but still loom over the rest of the city.

My Project is a response to the modern wellness industry. The main areas I researched into were crystal healing products, and other alternative wellness products/practices. I came across the controversial ‘Goop’ brand, a pivotal point in my Project, and from there I decided I wanted my FMP to expose some of the negative sides of this booming market, for instance crystal mining and the human rights violations and environmental destruction that happens as a result of it. My final piece is in the form of a ceramic pot that is illustrated with conceptual imagery responding to my research on the industry.

"Soul" is an animation short originally inspired by Greek philosophers' ideas on the soul. It explores a range of different animation techniques and supports a journey into soul from a range of perspectives. Whilst the soul is not something that we necessarily see everyday, it is within us in a range of colours, shapes and sizes. Thank you to the MET and all the wonderful people that inspired and nurtured my short film.

"House Project" Through a visual narrative I wanted to express feeling trapped and lost in the pandemic while experiencing living independently for the first time in my own home, only having my houseplants to keep me grounded with the responsibility to care for something other than myself. Plants would symbolise me having to grow, ground myself, and establish my own roots.

This piece was made with 5 layers of stencil and acrylic airbrush for my FMP on censorship in cartoons. In the piece I experimented with how elements such as colour and style can be used to obscure an underlying narrative. I was inspired by the way classic cartoons could create a vibrant and friendly atmosphere to camouflage and soften controversial content such as sex and violence. I wanted to demonstrate how a concept such as greed could be communicated and promoted as a positive thing through my use of colour and childlike design.

A political comic take on Brexit and using the narrative form to make a comic not meant to offend or project my opinions on the politics but to criticise how all political art operates, as most tend to try and evoke a response that you either hate or agree with the often extreme opinions they project. Not many have fun with the, what I find, boring subject matter that is politics. So many of my inspirations were from classic comics not political ones.
